Is it mainly because the tax credits aren't explicitly funded?

I thought it was because of the mandated coverages.

My understanding is they would like a more a la carte model of options to choose from.

No.

It is because it is not a repeal.

It also creates an "entitlement" with a refundable tax credit (i.e., your tax bill can be less than zero because of this).

Because it does little reduce costs or improve choices. It's almost, actually far, worse than doing nothing at all. Rand Paul's plan should be the negotiating point.

They wanted repeal of all of the Title 1 provisions - individual mandate, employer mandate, coverage for kids until the age of 26, coverage for pre-existing conditions.

Repealing that would have lost a lot of moderate Republican votes, and would have never gotten through the Senate.

The democrats all grumble but they come together when they need to.

The GOP in Congress splinters off into their groups and none of them refuse to budge.

The freedom caucus won't support it because it's not full repeal. If the bill was full repeal, the moderate republicans would not support that.

Competition across state lines, etc

I find it interesting that Republicans have spent the last 7 years frothing at the mouth for a full repeal. Yet, when Trump gets behind an utterly milquetoast slightly-watered-down-but-mostly-the-same-thing piece of legislation, it's the best thing ever and any Republican who doesn't support it is a selfish prick.

Some kind of explanation would be nice.

The GOP should replace the elephant as its symbol with this...

I don't see why they couldn't at least have allowed companies to sell insurance across state lines. That was one of Trump's big things during the campaign.

Republicans don't want to get rid of Obamacare. They'd rather have the ACA to blame

AHCA is to be done in 3 stages, the third stage, the one that needs 60 votes, is what needs to pass in order for the whole thing to come together.

Without the third one this is no better then O-care.

It is not ideologically pure conservatism. They are more worried about standing on principles instead of actually getting some of this crap rolled back. It is lead by idiots like Ran Paul. They want to much to soon. You do not roll back all this leftist bull crap in one bill. Ideology getting in the way of pragmatism.

Here's the thing. The majority of them don't actually want to get rid of most of Obamacare. Really the only parts they don't like are the individual mandate and the higher taxes on the higher earners. But they know they can't repeal both of those, while keeping the rest, or the whole thing crumbles and they get the blame.

What they resent and hate is that Obama's name is on it. The ironic thing is they are the ones that named it that so they could blame him for it and campaign on it. That part worked, but now that they have to deliver on those campaign promises, they have no clue what to do.
