Arizona is like the Ukraine of California. Just a satellite state of West Coast culture.

So I guess we can start resurrecting 19th century political cartoons now. It is nice to see California has progressed so much since then....

Of course this whole thing confuses me... can gay asians still force others to bake them wedding cakes? I want to make sure we have our priorities straight, er, correct.

Absolute first thought that came to mind upon reading this. Unbelievable hypocrisy and racism.

Don't say anything. They'll enroll in state schools throughout the rest of the country while this is being sorted out and bring up everyone else's average.

California's blatant racism is everyone else's gain in a way, right? I am aware that this is a reach.

California will strike down this bill. I don't think they're big into affirmative action (government sanctioned racism) in their public universities.

Governor Brown vetoed an AA bill back in 2011. The chancellor of UCLA opposes AA and so does the ACLU of California.

I do like this tidbit in the Wiki article LINK:

quote:

Democrats Leland Yee, Ted Lieu, and Carol Liu were among those who voted for SCA 5 in the Senate, but the three senators have since asked Hernandez to hold the bill from an Assembly vote in order to better assess its potential impacts, in light of fervent opposition among the public.

Also, you have to scratch your head at some of the groups who support the legislation:

quote:

The following organizations support SCA 5, according to the Legislature's record.[4]
AFSCME
American Association of University Women
Association of California Healthcare Districts
Bassett Teachers Association
California Academy of Physician Assistants
California Association for Nurse Practitioners
California Black Chamber of Commerce
California Black Health Network
California Communities United Institute
California Hospital Association
California Medical Association
California Nurses Association
California Pan-Ethnic Health Network
California Pharmacists Association
California Primary Care Association
California State Student Association
California Teachers Association
Equal Justice Society
Equality California
Health Access California
Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities
Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights of the San Francisco Bay Area
Medical Oncology Association of Southern California, Inc.
People Improving Communities through Organizing
Public Advocates
The Greenlining Institute
University of California Student Association
Western Center on Law and Poverty

I will just never understand California.

This % thing has been going on forever in California Universities. Twenty-five years ago Dinesh D'Souza chronicled it in Illiberal Education.

Nothing new about this. The govt picks winners/losers , demolishes Meritocracy, and sends kids who did not earn the right to be at the better schools to them, where they PROMPTLY fail out. A year later, the kids who SHOULD have been there transfer in. And the underachieving kid who happened to be the right color, ends up at community college where he should have been the entire time. This all makes COMPLETE sense to the American Liberal and the Race Grievance Lobby, which exists to protect American blacks and to a much lesser extent, Hispanics.

Now with State jobs, that is entire different because that is like winning the lottery. You get in, you are unfireable and you retire early and live like a King. Go to any State and compare the state's racial percentages and then MARVEL at how it is over-represented by specific races and under-represented by others.

Locally,BRCC is well known for purging Asian employees and replacing them on the administrative/support level with a more "protected" race. It's something people there laugh about and discuss. When Asians are hired, everybody knows the clock is ticking on them, because somebody's cousin/friend is waiting in the wings. Higher Education is where the little Administrative Stalinistas work out all their little plans and schemes.

It's part of moving FORWARD !

Or, more likely, they "invent" a major that they can shepherd these kids into where they only have to compete against one another, and they wind up graduating with a completely useless degree that doesn't prepare them for anything but bitch!ng about how they're constantly "wronged" - which is exactly what they were brainwashed into thinking in their bogus major.

This was tried 20 years ago. Calif wanted to cap Asian admissions to graduate schools like Engineering and Medicine. A high percentage of the students were returning to their homeland to work with the knowledge gained in the US.

The cap attempt did not pass. Similar logic has been expressed by medical schools re: female admissions. Some think they should be capped because female doctors practice medicine about half as many years as male doctors. So, it's a waste of med school resources.

This, by the way, was my FAVORITE part:

quote:

He said under-represented minority groups, like African Americans and Hispanics need protection, but such protection should not be made at the expense of Asian Americans.

In other words, he is all for picking winners/losers, as long as it's not him. frick that guy too.

Democrats have no use for minorities if they are educated and financially stable. They need minorities to be poor, stupid and uneducated so their pandering works.

Asians still vote mainly democrat because the MSM has been successful in convincing them that GOP only cares about white males.

Asians have always been on the short end of the stick when it comes to Affirmative Action in college admissions (even worse than white people).

Would this bill cap the enrollment of Americans of Asian descent or the enrollment of ACTUAL ASIANS (from foreign countries) who come to America to get a degree and then go back to their homeland after graduation?

If it is the latter then I don't think this is unreasonable at all. We should not be denying actual citizens admission over foreigners.

I would like to congratulate Asians on being too smart. If we all have to be stereotyped, that's like the best one ever

Watch the media go find a couple of white kids who couldn't get into Stanford and spin the story as some sort of attempt to restore white privilege. As we all know, the media is loathe to ever portraying blacks or Hispanics as the bad guys.

Somebody mentioned earlier that this was tried before in order to keep Asians from getting an elite education and then returning to their own country to work. Looks to me like there's an easy solution to that. For the most part, anyway. Americans of Asian descent who were born here aren't going anywhere. Even those who came here as very young children are predominantly going to stay in America after they graduate.

However, I wouldn't have any problem with limiting the number of foreign student who can get admitted to American universities. American citizens, regardless of race, should be given preference over foreign students from Asia or anywhere else.
