Probably still in the process of rewriting the history textbooks.

California resident answers

California considers this more important

quote:

California’s K-12 students will be learning more about the contributions of the LGBT community in the public-school curriculum as early as this fall. The California Board of Education recently voted in favor of a new History-Social Science Framework that builds on the Fair, Accurate, Inclusive and Respectful (FAIR) Education of 2012, which requires a more comprehensive representation of the LGBT community in school curricula. “The scholars, LGBT advocates, educators, and students who were pushing for these changes wanted to make sure that there weren’t just token mentions of Harvey Milk and Stonewall in 11th grade,” said Don Romesburg, an associate professor and chair of the Department of Women’s and Gender Studies at Sonoma State University. “We knew that, both for the sake of historical accuracy and for student education and school climate, it was important that all students learn about LGBT lives and history in elementary, through middle, and into high school.”

Why can't they teach the elementary kids just about what those people did that was important, and leave out the part about who they were fricking?

Do primary school kids need to be taught that?

California doesn't acknowledge federal laws.

Here's another exciting whopper from the California fantastic curriculum.

SAN DIEGO – The San Diego school board’s anti-Islamophobia campaign kicked off at Logan Elementary School Thursday with lessons from the Council on American-Islamic Relations.

quote:

Basically, CAIR conducted its own survey and results favored its mission. Mohebi used the report as evidence to build a campaign to call on the school board to “address Islamophobia” and bullying, which the school board approved in July 2016. Six months later, Mohebi is in schools in person to talk about the alleged bullying and promote Islam, according to the news site. The message seems to be sinking in. Alfonso Ruiz, 14, now understands there’s a lot of people who don’t like him, and Muslims and Latinos are on the same side. “To all the people who bully Muslims or Latinos, stop it. Treat them with respect. Even though they’re from a different race or religion, they’re still human beings,” the eighth-grader said. Ruiz was the only student who spoke with KPBS. Others in a photo from Mohebi’s talk appeared less than enthralled.

Why does anyone have to know about a persons sexual preferences to explain his/her accomplishments? If the accomplishments are praise worthy and of a magnitude where it deserves mentioning, it should be mentioned. If some marginal accomplishment is lauded simply to include lgbt persons, this is wrong.

And this is why you shouldn't let the state educate your kids.

If we are going to be fair, than don't we need to know how much arse George Washington was slaying?

Every state, or one of its local district, probably has some dumb and unnecessary standards (some states trying to add non-scientific alternatives to evolution is a scienxw curriculum).

It does show that this is largely in local or state control though; that's what I thought we wanted?

So you think they need to teach primary schoolers about who's fricking whom?

Why should sex be important to a 10-year old?
