ID is fine It's really simple....does the voter have a valid, unaltered form of photo ID? Does said photo ID match the full name on the voter rolls? If yes, that person votes, if no, they get a provisional ballot or gets sent home to find their ID.

That does sound simple. But the Texas law is not that simple. The district judge determined that it was more strict than the Indiana case that the Supreme Court endorsed.

Sure you do. If you go to the right store, when the clerk scans a beer, you are asked to swipe your driver's license before the transaction can be completed.

"fundamental rights":

A number of thing connected to parenting children require identification. Admittedly, not parenting itself, but for example, registering your children for school.

The left has doubled down on its message that blacks and other minorities just aren't up to snuff when it comes to getting a photo ID. While we who tend to lean to the right accept as fact that minorities are equal to the rest of us and, therefore, equally capable of things like raising their own children, not murdering people, and obtaining a photo ID, the left has made it perfectly clear that they do not believe that blacks and other minorities possess the basic capabilities required to complete such a simple taks.

I really enjoyed reading that. Thanks for posting.

It is incomprehensible to me how anyone could consider something as simple and common-sense as requiring identification to vote to be draconian or racist. Complete nonsense.

I guess you have never been to a bar/lounge the next day after some waiter/waitress got busted for selling to an underage person the night before? Hell, the place I frequent here in Conway was id-ing the alley cat that hangs out at the back door just so the owner's arse was covered.

Being against requiring a photo ID in order to vote makes absolutely no sense.

I can't even think of a single logical argument as to why it would make sense to not require a photo ID.

Getting SNAP benefits.

ETA: It's not a fundamental right but I will never understand how it isn't racist to require ID before getting food stamps or welfare or any other public benefit but it is to require ID to vote.

Not a fundamental right, but I had to show TWO forms of ID in order to rent a PO box for a company I worked PT for. My DL wasn't enough. Go figure.

Can't we make a combination Welfare/ID card. We know they won't lose that EBT card.

I've suggested this several times.

I live in Texas, and I voted yesterday.

Stepped right up, whipped out a valid drivers license, and.....voila!

This should be a non-issue. A strong majority of people already possess a valid ID, and anyone who doesn't have one can easily procure one. A small price to pay for taking a step towards a more secure election process.

The very concept that needing an ID to vote is somehow racist boggles my damn mind.

Unreal that that gained traction in political rhetoric.

In Cali, you are only required to produce an ID for buying alcohol if the shopkeeper thinks you look under 35.

It's not that they look the other way - it's that your age eventually exempts you from this requirement. So it's not required for the entire population.

I've posted about the inherent (so-called "soft") bigotry of certain liberal policy/rhetoric. There really is no other explanation. They must think blacks are stupid.

You have to show ID 3 times if you don't self-check in at the airport.

At the ticket counter.

Through security.

And at the gate when boarding.

3 Times!

Just curious, but if you use medical services under the ACA do you have to present an ID?

Both of which provide immediate, tangible benefits to those submitting payment.

Did anyone mention to them that Texas has gotten along fine without voter ID requirements for - how long? ... and that now they're only changing it because they know blacks are more likely to not have one?

Just curious.
