the shut down may have done some good, so we will have to wait and see.
the spil may have done some damage in specific areas, but I doubt it had any major effects.
The way that situation was handled was a joke. The gvt should have let the people who kill wells kill the well. They should have let those people do their job instead of adding more red tape.
the major screw up (after the blowout) was the dispersant, the oil could have been contained or burned.

A shameless multi-national corporation dealing in the extraction of raw resources?
I'm surprised they did not talk about all of the jobs the oil spill created.

BP sucks - That "60 Minutes" hit piece that slobbered all over BP and impugned impacted Louisianaians last year made me want to puke.
HBO's "Vice" (executive produced by great American Bill Maher) did a follow-up piece that examined the true devastation and aftermath of the spill, and painted a bleak picture for the go-forward of LA wildlife, fishing, shrimping industries.
In short, frick BP and frick "60 Minutes" for accepting their blood money or their BS story.

Yup
And as for the trout we have been hammering them as of late.

That's what I think too. I know plenty of commercial fisherman who are doing better than ever since the spill. Those are the honest ones though. The ones with their hands out will always claim it'll never be the same

Yea, pretty much everything I have ever watched on the subject has been a hack job. Not saying the BP doesnt hold responsibility in the matter but a whole lot more went into that situation that just "Oh BP is evil and its all their fault".

based on what? the incredible season the year before when every swigging dick who owned a Zebco 202 went out and caught multiple limits? Ever think all those limits might have had an impact on the years after?
I'm not saying you are wrong, but I've talked to numerous people who have done well with trout since the spill. Hard to say that one event is the reason some people had/have trouble

I'm not arguing -- but can someone tell me how this can be the fault of someone other than BP or it's business partners and affiliates?
Take the word evil away -- that is sensational, partisan hackery -- and tell me how anyone other than the parties involved with the extraction of the oil are to blame for the spill.

I get the feeling some people will blame everything on BP all the way down to their motor getting flooded and not starting.

No one else is to blame for the spill, but for all the clusterfrick that happened afterwards, there are plenty of folks to blame

no one is debating that. Their culpability has been well established. The debate is whether or not the reaction to the spill by all parties involved added to or lessened the problems that followed.

You are correct, I was more eluding to the technicals of the blowout and the cluster frick that was the clean up later on. The Gov slowed the killing of that well a good while with all their BS.

BP caused an unprecedented catastrophe. It's not unreasonable that the response efforts to it by other parties may not have been ideal or perfect.

Welcome to the big leagues, BP. I thought you got called up long ago. When you make some mistakes, you open the door for widespread litigation and claims of loss stemming from those mistakes.
I don't feel sorry for them. If they were a group of poors caught in the crosshairs of a violent SWAT raid on a family, we would all read posts about how they should have kept better company. Perhaps BP can learn something from the way we police derelicts and understand that the hammer will be dropped when you frick up.
