Fox said one of the Scouts took a picture of a border official, which spurred agents to detain everyone in that van and search them and their belongings.

“The agent immediately confiscated his camera, informed him he would be arrested, fined possibly $10,000 and 10 years in prison,” Fox said.

Fox said he was told it is a federal offense to take a picture of a federal agent. Not wanting things to escalate, Fox said he did not complain.

Another of the Scouts was taking luggage from the top of a van to be searched when something startling happened.

“He hears a snap of a holster, turns around, and here’s this agent, both hands on a loaded pistol, pointing at the young man’s head,” Fox explained.

Fox said that had them all in fear.

scalating from one of the scouts taking the agent's picture. Is it really illegal to nn photograph a federal agent?

LOL what?

So is every business that has security cameras going to be prosecuted? What about red light cameras?

What a fricking joke.

I'd have to hear the other side of the story.

What I've learned over the years, when you hear shocking stories like this, what really happened isn't exactly like the story says it happened.

There has to be something missing in this story...it just does not make sense. If Fox is accurately describing what happened that agent should be fired.

Does anyone know if agents have to file an "incident" report if they pull/point their gun at an individual?

That's a good question. It would be interesting to hear the agents side of the story.

What's most baffling, at least to me, is the head of the Boy Scouts response. So having a gun pulled on you is a good lesson in civics?

That story sounds just a tad fishy.

If this is even close to the truth and that agent pointed that weapon at a kids head then he needs to be fired.

I used to agree with this ENTIRELY ... and then life happened to someone in my family and we started to see camera phone videos. Government abuse of power exists and until it happens to you or someone you know well, it is tempting to think that the victim did something wrong. That MAY be true, but it's not always the case. Far from it.

This.

Unfortunately, more and more stories that you'd find hard to believe are turning out to be true.

Yup, I used to initially side with the officer in these cases, but I have done a complete 180.

It is NOT illegal to film or record local or federal officers.

frick these jack booted thugs.

Instead of shooting illegals dead as they try to cross the border he points a gun at a fricking boy scout.

and the moronic boy scout council spokesman says it was a good lesson about following rules

this county has lost its mind when it comes to rules and militaristic enforcement of them

and to the posters says when things sound this nutty, there's usually more to the story, I completely disagree. 20 years ago I would have said the same thing, but today the more we find out, the crazier the stories become

This story may be 100% true but most BP agents I've seen are pretty laid back and not super troopers. Then again, I'm sure there's plenty of hard-asses out there so it's not out of the realm of possibility.

Me too. I wish these stories we all " misunderstandings" and "exadggarated" but once you see so many examples of abuse it really ruins your trust.

It is 100% legal to film police, border agents, BATF, Homeland Security.. any of them.

This "illegal to film" shite needs a major slapdown.

Citizens must learn their rights.

You do NOT consent to searches and you CANNOT be detained.

Speak up, respectfully.

And film that shite.

(note: I am not a fan of those that go looking for these types of confrontations. But if you find yourself in one, KNOW YOUR RIGHTS!)

Do not consent to shite like this: Galveston ferry checkpoint
