The German automaker said Monday it will add another 1,000 jobs and invest $600 million in the plant as part of a plan to boost annual production to as many 450,000 vehicles

It's a great day for us here in Spartanburg and South Carolina and for the BMW group," said Harald Krueger, chairman of BMW. "The workforce will be well above 10,000 people, which is, in my view, clearly a symbol of success."

What wasn't included is for every job an auto manufacturer adds to their workforce, it adds additional jobs in the area. I've seen estimates from 6 to 9 jobs much like the chemical industry. So 1000 jobs at that plant would add a good 6000 jobs for that area.

A few years back the unions at Boeing were complaining about Boeing moving jobs to South Carolina and referred to them as uneducated. I don't see the Germans complaining one bit.

In before resident liberals tell you this is only temporary until they are replaced by machines even though 15 an hour wouldn't motivate fast food restaurants to replace people with kiosks.

I think this is a good thing when you factor in the realities of doing business today.

However, here's something to think about: Spartanburg rolled out the red carpet for BMW and has offered incredible subsidies/sweeteners dating back to when this plant first opened.

Yet, just a few weeks ago, this board was calling Elon Musk/Tesla a welfare queen?

Is BMW not a welfare queen too?

Oh yeah? You have me or record saying that? Or do you just like to place people into groups so you can wage battle?

Not lumping you into that category. Just responding to your post with a question relevant to this board.

No they aren't welfare queens. Incentivizing a company to expand and add jobs sounds like growing the economy to me.

But...but...trump is going to mess up the BMW plant in SC talking to Merkel like that. Good call. Nothing matters more than money folks and this is money.

Well Clinton would have created 5000 jobs so this is really a 4000 job loss...
