He wasn't clear on what the "or else" threat was but his butthurt is obvious.

quote:

In his final speech as vice president, Joe Biden warned that the top 1 percent needed to pay their fair share, or else.

We need a progressive tax structure where everyone "pays their fair share," said Biden. "The top 1 percent is not carrying their own weight."

I guess the top 1% paying more of the total income taxes than the entire bottom 90% is not their "fair share."

I love how they paint these "1%" as an evil villain. Just wait until they take their money elsewhere

Or else...

I'll leave office with my medal and fade into obscurity.

Thank god he was stupid enough to decline running against Hillary. He likely would've been the next POTUS.

Graph shows how minuscule the Bush tax cut was in 2001 compared to the grand scheme of things. Lefties are still bitching about that.

Other than create a faux boogey man, what does this rhetoric do?

Nothing.

There will always be a top 1%, there will be bull chitters telling us what's fair and there will always be a bottom 10%.

Taxing or taking from the top 1% will never change that, and we will always have those who want to capitalize on people who are jealous of the wealthy.

Already paying more than their fair share. The other 90% need to get cracking and earn more by working and being more productive thereby paying more taxes.

Someone help me understand what those graph lines indicate in 2011?

Also, if you are in command of all income tax graphs and the data points to something favorable (say higher tax paid by 1%-ers), wouldn't your graph be up to date, at least to 2014?

Be my guest.

ETA: Here is another link which updates the tax data to 2014 as you requested. It shows the Top 1% paid even more of the total taxes than they did in 2011....almost half of all income taxes paid.
quote:

The top-earning 1 percent of Americans will pay nearly half of the federal income taxes for 2014, the largest share in at least three years, according to a study. According to a projection from the non-partisan Tax Policy Center, the top 1 percent of Americans will pay 45.7 percent of the individual income taxes in 2014—up from 43 percent in 2013 and 40 percent in 2012 (the oldest period available).

Progressive tax structure means exactly the opposite both in terms of gross tax paid, and often times (but not always) in terms of taxes paid as a percentage of taxable income.

Only if Biden chooses to. The media is going to treat the next (at least) 2 years as if Obama and Biden are still in charge. They are just going to pretend Trump isn't the president except only to attack him.

I hate to say it, but if you think Obama and Biden are going to fade in to obscurity after Friday, you are sorely mistaken. If anything, the legend of Obama and Biden is going to grow in the eyes of the media.

I hear this ad nauseum, but I never see "fair share" defined.

Wonder why it is that these speakers never put an actual number on it...?

Aren't the 1% pretty much all Dem supporters?

My point wasn't directed to you personally. I was questioning why the information stops in 2011 with his graph points looked like they were intersecting a negative manner during the Democrat Administration. One would think that if things were going in a more positive direction for the same DA, that the graphs and information would have been updated for public consumption. Again not meaning for you to update the graph.

How about the fricking federal government be more efficient in their spending and we wouldn't need more taxes.

When I googled "Top 1% paying what percent of total taxes" the first link I provided was the first one to show up on Google. I went back and there were other links below that one which I provided in my edit which is updated to 2014.
