That's still a lot of money for most folks.

Can't speak for Louisiana, but in Alabama most private schools aren't that expensive. The bigger cities have a handful that are, then a bunch of more moderately priced ones. The latter are almost always connected to a church.

Get out in the rural areas, and the private schools aren't expensive at all. They're priced just high enough to keep the poorer whites and blacks out.

There are basically 3 private schools in Montgomery that were created to educate white kids after segregation. They're good schools but parents probably shell out $15K per kid for K-12. The schools know that that the rich white families will keep paying whatever tuition it takes to keep their kids out of the awful public school system in Montgomery. A lot of the tuition is paid for by grandparents.

Tuition ranges from more than $23,000 for pre-K to more than $40,000 for grades 9-12.

Why call it tuition?

Just call it what it is.

Jesuit is pretty reasonable compared to what my parents paid in Houston. I am still not sure why they did that. I was zoned to decent enough public school.

Jesuit-N.O. is excellent. Houston has Kinkaid and Strake Jesuit that are outstanding. Bellaire is public but it's very elite by your ability to live in that district. Clear Lake has some decent schools. Memorial is not bad at all.

And yet, it's interesting that they still go to expensive prep schools that don't require a battery of meaningless standardized tests.

And then college requires ...

Drumroll....

Standardized test scores.

You must be some kind of special moron.

Definition of news: 'newly received or noteworthy information, information not previously known to someone.'

Definition of political: 'relating to the government...'

Now listen carefully: is this information not previously known to the vast majority of us? The answer is yes. Is Barron the son of the POTUS who happens to be related to the government as in being the head of said government? Yes.

Therefore, this IS news AND political. Class dismissed!

The one who isn't just borderline creepy is you, joining the class of special morons. It's called information and it's out there for those who choose to stretch their brains, a very useful daily exercise.

Finding out what private school the president's kid is going to attend isn't really stretching the brain.

He was not referring to SATs and ACTs. He was talking about the myriad state administered tests. In MD they are called PARCC, in FL they are called Florida Standards Assessments, etc.

And, fyi, an increasing number of colleges are making SATs and ACTs optional or even unnecessary. This is a list from 2015, more colleges are joining all the time.

Yep - i am sure the kids coming from Newman require a tutor to handle Houston public schools. My friends kid that has a 4.0 at Stanford would certainly have needed assistance to at any Houston public schools.

It may just be the one school or a few schools in this area in Houston. I will need them to clarify more. Or maybe tutor is automatically assigned then find out the student is okay and doesn't need it. I don't know.

Point is Louisiana schools are struggling compared to the rest of the country.
