Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms (D) said Sunday that rhetoric from the White House gives “permission” to people who are “prone to being racist.”

Her comments on CNN's "State of the Union" were in response to questions regarding the shooting of Ahmaud Arbery, a 25-year-old black man killed in February.

Bottoms said the circumstances surrounding Arbery’s death are part of a larger issue around the country.

“The rhetoric that we hear coming out of the White House in many ways, I think many who are prone to being racist are given permission to do it in an overt way in a way we wouldn't [otherwise] see in 2020,” she said.

Bottoms said if local leadership fails in citiies across the country, the Justice Department is supposed to step in and “make sure people are appropriately prosecuted.”

“But we don't have that leadership at the top right now,” she said. “It's disheartening. I have four kids, three of whom are African-American boys. They are afraid, they are angry.”

quote:

“I think had we not seen that video I don't think they would be charged,” Bottoms said on CNN. “It’s heartbreaking. It’s 2020 and this was a lynching of an African American man.”

Hmmm, I don't see her giving any examples of this rhetoric.

Did anyone ask her..."what specific rhetoric are you referring to?".

Oh for fricks sake!

Bet she wouldn’t let her four kids walk alone in an inner city black neighborhood.

I’m shocked , absolutely shocked at this incident being used to gain political traction.

Oh, who am I kidding I’m not. And the normie conservatives who help push it along to prove that they’re not “muh rasist” are part of the problem.

This doesn't matter. She used the word "rhetoric" in a sentence, so her constituents think she's smart.

but that point is moot, b/c the state authorities stepped in and did prosecute

now i hope the DOJ investigates the local prosecutor for his bullshite, but her goal was accomplished

what the hell does Trump have to do with this?

She is right you know. Fine “ tiki torch carrying white nationalists” people on both sides proves exactly what she said.

Welp, like it's been said before... not all Trump voters are racists, but all racists are Trump voters.

They’re cranking up for the election. John “Pajama Boy” Ossoff ,candidate for David Perdue’s Senate Seat has been running tv ads with John Lewis’ endorsement saying “Let’s send Donald Trump a message he won’t forget.”

You have that backwards. The proper question is: What did she say, that is correct?

First off, people don't need permission from government, to feel any particular way. People should make up their own minds and vote accordingly.

frick her.

yeah cool, but, how does that affect this story about a local prosecutor being an idiot? who was then overruled by the state agency who is not investigating his office? are you arguing that "Trump's America" is one where racists get investigated and possibly prosecuted?
