They matriculate through school and into the pros, and often times they get by with doing things because the coach and or school needs them to play.

It is easy to see how some of these guys believe they can just about do anything and get by light or unscathed.

Players routinely break laws and get slapped on the hand. Are the Hernandez, Rice, and Peterson "stories" going to change things?

athletes?

Almost everyone is a criminal. If you have rolling stopped, sped, failed to yield, etc. If you touched a feather on the ground you're a criminal. If you failed to report every dime of income you're a criminal.

Every one of us reading this will break at least one law today.

You mean really good athletes, like the less than 1% of athletes?

They are wealthy celebrities. Wealth and social status results in decreased punishment for crimes.

I've been told by people who were in the mix of things at the time that Cecil Collins got a lot of breaks in Leesville. Who really took that second ACT?

Our mixing of athletics and education is sad really.

A particularly American thing.

I coach high school sports. One thing I'm proud of is that we hold every single one of our players accountable for their actions and academics. If they don't take care of life inside the classroom and in society they don't play. Kicked a kid off last week for not turning homework in. Would have been a starter.

Haha! We should be able to get by. Running the program that way has cost us some wins but it's been better in the long run. Our kids are respectful and well liked in our community. They typically score well on ACT and do well in college. We've even won a state championship in our time here and should compete for one this year. Our coaching staff is dedicated to the success of our kids in life first and that has paid bigtime dividends.

rates of athletes doing all of this bad shite are lower than the national averages

i'd imagine if you broke it down by race, black athletes are nowhere near the national average of rates of comparably-aged black men

this is not a crisis

anybody who thinks this is a crisis is showing their arse to be a sheeple of MSM and a fan of emotional-irrational thinking

It's getting younger than jr. high. Up here schools like Evangel and Calvary are not limited by any school boundaries. Not even parishes. Their people start scouting youth football games all over Caddo and Bossier Parishes.. starting around 4th grade. If a boy is unusually large or athletic they will start making contact with parents by 5th grade. Trying to convince the parents to leave the district school of their residence.

I am an Athletic Trainer and I worked in high schools for 10 years. I've seen the really good ones get away with shite that you wouldn't imagine.

I applaud the coaches who will take a loss in order to punish a kid for something that he / she did wrong.
