Will he "triangulate" like Bill Clinton and finish on a high note?

I think this is most likely.

For some reason, I think he will tack to the center and finish on a high note. I think he values his legacy too much to go out with a low 30s approval rating.

Other than wishful thinking, what makes y'all think this? What specific examples of Obama triangulating can you point to?

I can think of none, but maybe it's a matter of interpretation. He does not play well with others (well, conservative members of congress anyway). He rammed through Obamacare and hasn't done anything with them since. He doesn't have the knowledge, history, personality or relationships to work with Congress at this point, and it will only get worse after the election.

Rs will repeal Obamacare. Senate Dens will filibuster or Obama will veto. Then we will have 2 years of investigations, confirmation blocking and general poo-throwing. Most of the Republicans who win, will do so because they opposed Obama. Why do you think they would work with him now? That ship has sailed.

Capital Gains Tax:

Obama supports: Increase capital gains and dividends taxes from 15 to 20 percent for those making more than $250,000 (couples) or $200,000 (single)

Obama enacts: Tax on capital gains, dividends goes up to 20 percent for families earning $450,000 or more

Foreign Policy:

Obama selects Robert Gates as his Secretary Of Defense

Taxation:

Obama Supports: Ending Bush Tax Cuts

Obama Enacts: Extends Bush Tax Cuts against his wishes and contrary to campaign promises

"Fiscal Cliff":

Obama Supports: Raising taxes on families making $250,000 a year or more

Obama Enacts: Raising taxes on individuals making more than $400,000 a year, and on families making more than $450,000 a year

I can post more of these after work. Trying to find as many specific examples as possible at work is difficult.

You are out of your freaking mind if you think these are examples of triangulating.

Obama example of "compromise": I want to raise taxes, but didn't end up raising them as much I wanted.

In an compromise, everyone gets something, but nobody gets everything they want.

So if Republicans had gotten some entitlement reform to go along with the tax increases- THAT is compromise. Obama not getting 100% of what he wanted is NOT compromise.

And the only reasons those things happened was because of the sunset nature of the tax cuts. Obama has no leverage left. He has done nothing with congress and will continue to do nothing with congress. They hate him and he hates them. He sold out any possible relationship he could have with them over Obamacare. I don't blame him for that, it was a historic reform. But the well has been poisoned ever since.
