As more Americans fail drug tests, employers turn to refugees

I posted this below in a thread but thought it might be worthy of a thread of its own.

I have read many people saying on this board drugs should be legalized so maybe this is not okay?

And why not do something about the Americans with drug problems (unless you think an addiction is okay).

We do, and that's part of the problem. We arrest and prosecute non-violent drug users instead of treating their addiction.

Drugs and refugees were both created by the globalists to destroy America

That's largely untrue. Diversionary/treatment programs are much more common for nonviolent first offense offenders than incarceration. Problem is, they rarely work.

Grown folks should be free to live and die however they choose.
I think addiction is a choice. A bad choice but freedom is risky.

Because many diversionary programs largely have little to do with treating addiction. PTI in South Carolina requires random drug screens and community service, but isn't focused on addressing the issue of addiction.

I would support mandatory IOP treatment for those who wanted to divert any non-violent drug offense, but we'd rather spend money on militarized police gear than fund our local rehab centers.

If you think dopeheads go on a rampage over imprisonment, wait until they are forced to stop doing drugs. You'd have to kill several of them to quell the violence.

Freedom is the ability to make good or bad decisions for yourself.

If you're not free to choose bad decisions, then youre not free.

Freedom inherently means risk. But the risk is worth your life. And many have died to defend it. We shite on those deaths every time we take another freedom from the people.

Most people on dope (heroin and opiates) are physically addicted. Withdrawal is the penultimate fear of these addicts. This is what prevents many of them from getting clean.

Instead of sending them to jail when they are caught with dope, we should send them to a medical facility, where medical professionals can oversee them during withdrawal. Once the withdrawal is over, give them the option to divert the charge by going to rehab. The recidivism rate for addicts who do a 90 day program is far less.

Going to prison doesn't cure the underlying problem, as dope is easier to get in prison than on the street. And so long as private prisons exist and lobby our elected politicians, there will be no focus on trying to eliminate drug addiction.

And the war on drugs has served the public good how? It's easier to get drugs than when the war began. Our prisons are overflowing. And the war on drugs has singularly done more to eviscerate the 4th Amendment than anything else. Maybe this shouldn't be just a police issue.

It's interesting that you think getting drugs in rehab facilities would be harder than in a prison.

I'm sure those armies of psychologists scare the drug-addicted straight to sobriety.

If withdrawal is second to last, what's their last fear?
