I don't see this problem in my battalion or brigade. Many senior nco's as well as junior and field grade officers are minorities here at ft. Stewart.

This is nothing new. There were discussions about this 20 yrs ago when I was serving.

I'm sure they will be discussing it 20 years from now.

If I've learned anything from my time on the poliboard, its that white people really have it rough today in America. I feel for you guys.

No I'm serious. I never realized how lucky I was until I joined this board a couple years ago.

There are implications for the military in this and the security of the country and our civil rights.

A military that is not representative of the people will not have the support of the people. It's that simple.

You know, I really don't understand this line of reasoning. If a practice is discriminatory based on race, isn't it still discriminatory even if it is targeted to a historically advantaged group and therefore wrong? Are you OK with that? If so, then at least be honest and dispense with any talk about equality, because you really don't want equality.

It's wrong to treat people a certain way because of the color of their skin. The only way to fix the problem is to treat them a certain way because of the color of their skin.

Yep, like I said, I'm really lucky I'm black and never have to deal with discrimination like you whites have to so often.

Nope.

The one that causes a person to just shrug their shoulders at discriminatory practices because they're directed at a historically advantaged group. The one that's implied by statements like this:

No, what I'm pointing out is a very common practice on the poliboard. When theres a report or article or whatever about whites being discriminated against, its real and everyone should be outraged. When its the same thing about blacks being discriminated, its met with much more skepticism, and alot of the replies revolve around blacks simply complaining and still having this victim mentality.

IOW, I'm sorry you guys have to go through so much discrimination, and I'm lucky I don't.

Wrong.

The outrage is that the cases aren't treated equally.

Discrimination against whites = just accept it
Discrimination against blacks = just another example of how Amerikkka just wants to lynch black people and turn back the clock 175 years.

So instead this board also doesn't treat these cases equal, and its just the other extreme here. I coulda sworn my mother told me something about two wrongs......

I agree but, just for argument's sake, let's say that 85% of the combat command roles were occupied by blacks. Would the military spin it as a success story for minorities? What would happen if the military decided they needed more whites in these positions?

Hey, I am 100% supporter of race blind policies and a total meritocracy. I've always been in that camp. I just think that this board has a very slanted view and believes that being a minority is always beneficial and being white is always detrimental in these types of circumstances. I mean, every thread someone brings up how he or someone he knows was passed up for a job by a minority only bc he was a minority, but its as if poster cant comprehend that there may be instances where them being white helped and the minority got the short end of the stick.
