Odd. Is there some reason white men cannot do the job?
It's odd as shite.....that's why I posted the article. I'd be curious to know where these talking points are coming from.

The White House or DOJ, I'm guessing.
About half the shite that comes out of either place has the race card involved in some way.

Why not put the best leaders into leadership positions, regardless of race?

i dont see why this even matters...has it been a problem what the current leaders are doing ? if we add leaders jus because of there race and not because of there content or if they didnt earn it then thatll be a bigger problem

I know Social Engineering has been going on in the military since 1962.
In Navy Boot Camp, a Black American was selected as the Recruit Company Commander. After five weeks he had an accident. While eating chow, he got a chicken bone hung in his throat and had to be replaced. He was forced to wait on the next company to rinish his training.
That alone does not prove racism. However there were less than five African Americans in a Company 0f seventy eight young men. There were reservists as well as recruits who had had ROTC in college, who were passed over.
Out of Boot Camp I moved on to Missile Technician "A" School. A class roster had been established, with Seaman Recruit "Williams" as class leader. Williams was on the class roster but had not made it to base. Two days later Seaman Williams showed up. There was confusion. One recruit overheard one of the instructers comment to a fellow instructor, I thought Williams was Black? It was too late to change the roster without showing racism. A couple days later Seaman Johnson, who was black, showed up. They had gotten confused, was it Williams or Johmson.

Roy - don't take this the wrong way - and I'm sure you're aware of it, but you're old as hell, brah.

I guess all those names just sounded alike to them.

Sounds like sabotage ... most chickens being white and all.
Sorry ... but, when I read it, it just seemed so odd ... so, had to comment.

I was worried that was going to go in another direction.

There will be a similar push in a few years to get more female combat commanders.
And gays, as well.

Weep for the leftist social experiment that our military has become.

In the early 40s Stalin purged many of his most competent commanders and replaced them with those he deemed politically acceptable.
The USSR paid dearly for that.

being "worried" means they want to understand why it is.
Maybe it's fine. Maybe there are institutional barriers for minorities. Maybe it's personal choice.
Maybe you guys need to stop having a shite fit about every racial article posted on the internet.

They've been trying to change the demographics for at least 12 years. Going through officer training, they would a have meeting for only minorities where they would push combat branches to them.

Anecdotally, I cannot find an instance in my memory where a minority soldier or officer's status as such was used in any way other than neutral or a positive.
In 26 years I cannot recall a single instance of an eligible minority soldier or officer being "bypassed" by a white soldier or officer - with the caveat that there are always "favored" children (fast trackers) that bypass everyone, regardless of race (I'm whiter than sour cream ) - AND a decent percentage of fast trackers are increasingly minority and female.

quote:It's important to read this passage before Dey terk er jerbs!ing all over the place. The article only outlines a general observation and questions whether or not this is a problem.
“The issue exists. The leadership is aware of it,” Brig. Gen. Ronald Lewis toldUSA Today on Thursday. “The leadership does have an action plan in place. And it’s complicated.”
Obviously it is possible that a lack of commanding officers of color could lead to fewer recruits of color, which would be a problem. This is obviously complicated if true.

Well for the enlisted combat ranks minorities still make up a force similar or greater than the populous as a whole. So it's really not an issue unless you think minorities need to be of equal representation in all branches. Maybe they should promote whites in noncombat branches instead.

Did you make rank via ability or social engineering? Maybe you don't know and feel uneasy about the subject.
I commanded a combat heavy squad once and was one of two whites in it. Not once did I hear any complaint about race in combat. Nobody gave a damn about it, bringing them home alive was all I cared about and we did. Now after we got home if they wanted a black guy to lead us around a parade ground I'm sure my guys would of been fine with it. Where it mattered they preferred me.
