Paleoconservatism (sometimes shortened to paleocon) is a conservative political philosophy found primarily in the United States stressing tradition, limited government and civil society, along with religious, regional, national and Western identity.

Paleoconservatives press for restrictions on immigration, a rollback of multicultural programmes, the decentralization of the federal policy, the restoration of controls upon free trade, a greater emphasis upon economic nationalism and isolationism in the conduct of American foreign policy, and a generally revanchist outlook upon a social order in need of recovering old lines of distinction and in particular the assignment of roles in accordance with traditional categories of gender, ethnicity, and race.

Mostly. I'm not doctrinally committed to free trade but I'm not doctrinally committed to a lot of controls on it either

Nationalism and isolationism are good until they aren't.

Yes, 100%. My dream President would be Pat Buchanan. I am not kidding.

It's the term I've used to identify my political beliefs for quite a few years. We just need the next Pat Buchanan to step up and I think people will gravitate towards it.

The left reads this as sexist, racist and go pick some cotton and shut up.

For as much as you and I shite talk, you're probably one of the posters I most identify with ideologically.

Have heard the term for about a half dozen years, but never got a definition of what it meant before.

Badly named, in my opinion. If you are going to try and distinguish yourself from Conservatism - at least come up with something that is understandable as part of the word or name, ie Constitutional Conservative or Pro-Life Conservative, etc...

Still good...

When did social Conservative or economic Conservative fall out of favor for discussing aspects of Conservatism? Never heard this term before in my life.
