While I am not a lib I am more to the left than many on this board and I definitely support a hard arse approach to the borders.

Conservatives must admit that a tall, long arse fence on the Mexican border (covering the entire border) is an infeasible, extremly expensive concept.
If you seriously want a fence, I just shake my head.

I'd rather have the US military on the border than in Afghanistan or Iraq. At least here they're protecting the sovereignty of the US, and not getting killed for no reason at all.

The US spent 48.4 billion dollars in foreign aid in 2012 alone. There is money to build a secure fence or implement at least a sophisticated and effective way to keep from crossing the border.

Hell, bring the troops home from South Korea. They have a ton of border enforcement experience.

It doesn't have to be the Berlin Wall and, no, it doesn't stop drug running, but it most certainly puts a huge dent in human smuggling/border jumping.

Do you even engineer?
If India can do it I'm sure the USA could. Not to mention it's a great project for shovel ready jobs.
Will a fence be perfect? No. Will it drastically cut down on illegal crossings? Yes.
I mean the White House has a fence and it does a pretty good job of preventing illegal crossings.

And stop the influx of hot Latinas. Hell no.

Exactly. That slant-eyed little midget in North Korea is not going to do anything.

But immigrants crossing the border will just fall into our military's arms and we will be forced to take them and place them into refugee camps. Who knows what happens then.
At least a huge freaking fence is a major physical deterrent. And people that think a fence cannot be built are idiots.

I suppose for this board, I'd be considered a liberal, but that's another matter. I support a secure border - question is, how is it accomplished?

Denied.
What is expensive is open borders, cripplingly so.

Of course we can't have an airtight wall - wall/fence in some places, electronic/surveillance to fill in the gaps in others. The illegals will find the gaps in the system, but we have to attempt to close those.
Again, creating a disincentive to them being here will reverse the flow. I'm for a comprehensive system which allows for work visas, health checks, ending birthright citizenship for children of illegals, and cracking down on employers who exploit these people, essentially at slave's wages with little to no rights, protections, workplace safety, etc.

It's cheaper than you think. We could have a high quality fence built in half the estimated time by using illegal immigrant laborers and pay then $2.50 an hour. There would be an endless supply of said workers who would happily provide this service for specified wage.

You just don't build a fence and walk away.
You use a combination of walls, natural terrain, boots on ground, quick reaction and surveillance.
If there is "a want" it can be done.
