This is my point. Can anyone say that America is becoming a freer nation overall as time goes on? That we have more freedom today than 15 years ago?

15 years ago was 1999. All hail Clinton!

1776 "freedom" is not the same as 2016 "freedom". If people can't see that life became more complicated in nearly 2.5 centuries I don't know how to argument.

No shite. Have a beer. Eat a burger. frick. I bet Rush Limbaugh is. He feasts on your fears.

And for sake of discussion. What government would you prefer to live under? Name the country. My travels have taken me to great tourist spots. Not sure that I would want to live there though.

When all you have to sweat is the small stuff,

My pessimism is rooted in the steadfast knowledge that the men of 1776 would projectile vomit at what this nation has become and the subjugation that we are willing to tolerate.

We're definitely a nation that embraces different ideals than when it was founded. People did not want Big Government back then. So many people want it now. Based on human psychology and cultural sociology, that is just the way a nation created in the way it was evolves. FA Hayek described it quite well in The Road to Serfdom.

I keep waiting for an election year where some wise politician pays homage to the crying Indian of the 1970's era Keep America Beautiful campaign:

But instead of the Indian, we see actors portraying the founding fathers looking down on Pelosi as she utters the famous "We have to pass it to know what is in it" speech, or Hillary as she utters the famous, "What difference at this point does it make" speech, or Obama uttering either his “I believe in keeping guns out of our inner cities, and that our leaders must say so in the face of the gun manufacturer’s lobby.” line or the “I do think at a certain point you’ve made enough money.” line.

The founding fathers then turn to the camera and we see a tear drop.

But I do admit it would be risky to show them crying after seeing a black President.

I feel pessimistic about the future, weagle99.

My life has been wonderfully simple. But I worry daily for the younger generations, as they don't seem to be aware of the constitutional, economic and moral decline taking place in America. Although, I admit much of the blame should be placed on "leadership" of my baby boomer generation.

Our military intervention outside of our own borders will continue to take the lives of our troops, our children. And for what? While these brave soldiers die protecting the central bank's petrodollar, our federal government is growing exponentially in size and scope here at home.

The government keeps us balkanized by race, sex, sexual orientation, language, economic class, etc. We are so preoccupied in our disdain for each other that we don't realize we are ALL going to lose.

This country needs an enema. And a revolution. Happy Independence Day!

U.S. in the year 1950. I was there. It was great. No EPA, OSHA, Dept of Educ, Dept of Energy, etc. We drove cars without seat belts. We played with liquid mercury. We carried guns in our cars to high school. It was the kind of personal freedom that will never come again. It was great.
