This is our nationalist ally Geert Wilders' PVV (Party For Freedom)'s grand chance to become a majority party and (I think) a chance for him to become Supreme Commandant* of the Netherlands. A summit with Wilders, Trump, Putin, Hungary's guy, Polish guy, and Le Pen would be so epic.

I know next to nothing about their electoral system or how the Supreme Commandant* is elected - I do know that the PVV party was leading in most polls during the summer but with the cessation of ISIS terrorism in Europe these past 5 months he's slipped down to 2nd place.

I plan to look into both this and the French elections more in the coming months and hope to get involved in meme magic somehow. I am traveling to Amsterdam a couple of times for work in early 2017 so I'll try to find out more firsthand, etc. as well.

* - Supreme Commandant is a phony title that I made up

A lot of those in Amsterdam view him as being slightly racist because of his immigration policy. However, the same people who say he is racist will be the first to curse the Moroccans when their bike is stolen.

I have a friend from the Netherlands who is a grad student in Utrecht. She's about as liberal as any American SJW. Her parents are from rural Friesland though and are basically rednecks. The Dutch are an interesting people. They have liberal instincts, yet they also veer towards the practical. It'll be interesting to see how they vote.

The oddest thing about their political views is that there is hardly any correlation between an individuals social and fiscal leanings. They are very liberal fiscally, but socially they seem to be all over the place. In the US it is rare to find someone that is fiscally liberal and socially conservative, or vice versa. There that is not all that uncommon.
