The victims, who haven't been publicly identified, were walking in Center City around 10:45 p.m. on September 11 when they came face-to-face with a large, clean-cut-looking group of white men and women in their early 20s. Someone in the group asked if the men were "boyfriends," according to police, and made "disparaging remarks" about gay people before attacking the victims, kicking them in the head, chest and face. One of the men had to undergo surgery and have his jaw wired shut; the other suffered bone fractures and cuts to his face. As the group was fleeing the scene, one of them also stole a bag one of the victims had dropped on the ground.

Now what's the difference between here and the Memphis situation? If only I could put my finger on it.

Lots of good, white behavior here. Lopsided street beatings, petty theft. Oh, and also, they were all Catholic.

It's interesting for sure. What do you think fueled the attack?

They should be prosecuted just like anyone else who commits a similar crime, motive means nothing.

What is your point?

How about stop the trend of being outraged everytime a specific group beats up someone different from them and be outraged that a group beat up someone period.

Philadelphia is one of the most racist and prejudiced cities in America.

Something like this happening there isn't surprising.

Motivation?

Not familiar with "the Memphis situation." Was it something arising out of gay hate?

Pertinence?

"They" do it too.
Is that your single point here?

Are you equally upset about the women in Brooklyn who pulled a gun on and robbed their neighbors because they were tired of white people moving into the neighborhood?

How many couples have been robbed and beaten because they look rich? Or because the perps were jealous of the attractiveness of one or both attacked? Or because the couple were one nationality/race while the attackers were another?

Can't a violent crime simply be a violent crime deserving of a harsh punishment?
