"Fake News" is a term that trump coined, you idiot. It was used as defense mechanism to combat media reports that portrayed him negatively and his low approval rating.
Incorrect. He took the phrase over. He didn't invent it.

Very untrue.
It started becoming a thing when BuzzFeed and Facebook started talking about how they would monitor the rash of "fake news" during the election. CNN and other news outlets made big deals about it.
The so-called fake news outlets were mostly right leaning outlets.
Trump then did a tweet accusing CNN of being "Fake News" and started using it in his campaign. The rest is history.
But it really started with the media.

Oh? Because I have heard the phrase "liberal media" LONG before the invention of Fox News. It may not have been the exact phrase "fake news", but it was certainly the intent to imply it was fake.
We are strictly talking about the term "fake news".
That was pretty much a media invention in this election cycle to slam smaller "news outlets". It was really a way to say "WE are the voices of real news, not all these others. Lets censor them".
Trump just took it and ran with it as a counterpunch.

When you say something so obviously false you shouldn't call other people idiots.

Why would they be the ones to enlighten you? It's the battle cry of the right, maybe they should be the ones explaining it to everyone. Libertarians over here, just
It's actually the style cry of both sides. That's what makes it so confusing.
The left says Wikileaks is fake news and the server stuff is fake news and the getting debate questions is fake news and Hillary being sick is fake news. Pay to play is fake news. Benghazi and Haiti. Foreign funded campaign. Clinton playing a huge role in starting the war Syria. Planned parenthood selling baby body parts. Illegals voting. They say all that is fake news. That's all true, however. A lot of the negative truths aren't even being reported at all by the left media.
The right says fake news that trump is a nazi and homophobic. Russia Hacking election is fake news. Melania being an escort is fake news. Chaos in the cabinet. Peeing on people. Raping a 13 year old. Assaulting a woman on a plane. Oh and the polls All of these things make the right scream fake news because it IS fake news.

Every populist since Huey Long has attached the press as printing fake news. It's part of the standard issue populist play book. It's how they get control of the masses. Pretty simple really.
Huey Long even went as far as putting a 2 cent tax on newsprint to drive the newspapers out of business.
Then Long founded his own newspaper, The Louisiana Progress. He forced state employees to subscribe and had state agencies take out ads.
Can't wait to see what Trump has up his sleeve for the press.
1933 Huey P. Long battles the Louisiana press.
