Soooo, the left has been calling for 'single-payer' health care in the US for some time.
Welp, VT went ahead and enacted what is called 'Green Mountain Care' with stupid-endous success...
Here's the kicker:

This would be laughable if it were so serious.
But anywhoooo...

In 2011, Vermont passed the nation's first single-payer healthcare system, "Green Mountain Care." While the law was supposed to be fully enacted by 2017, it has become apparent that there's no solid plan in place to actually pay for the healthcare of all Vermont residents. Democratic lawmakers, citing missed deadlines and past failures, have begun to call for Vermont Governor Peter Shumlin to "shelve" the plan.
Here's the kicker:
quote:
The cost of one year of Green Mountain Care is estimated to be anywhere from 1.6 to 2.2 billion dollars. This is equal to the entire tax revenue of the state of Vermont.

They took the best healthcare system in the world and completely destroyed it.
Thank an Obama supporter each chance you get.

Just one example where liberal ideology is a complete failure.
They are touting and bragging about how now your grown-arse f*ing kids can stay on your plan until their 26.
And, they go around touting it like it's "FREE".
Well, guess what, someone has to f*cking pay for this.
As soon as that went into effect, my company increased the amount we pay in premiums. WHY? Because the company wasn't going to just eat the cost. So, guess who's paying for some 25 year old weedhead to sit in his parent's basement and play video games all day? That's right -- ME.
These are grown-arse ADULTS that I shouldn't have to pay for.
But, like BHP said, in the demented mind of a liberal -- IT'S ALL FREE.

There's nothing like forcing you to drop one shitty middle man (insurance companies) for a more shitty middle man (federal government).

Now step back and understand that Vermont is consistently ranked as one of the 3-4 healthiest states in the Union.
Imagine the costs of single payer in Louisiana.

Really good point. Also, with only 63 million working for the 320 Million , you have basically one worker for every 5 receiving healthcare. The taxes would be unbelievable, or care would really suck.

How can VT do this, when a state can't go in the opposite direction (more free market)?

Yeah, how f'd up is that? You have the freedom for more government but when it comes to wanting less government your freedom is limited.
Land of the free.

Anyone who supports single payer is an idiot. It's not going to work in a country where almost half of its population is already reliant on some sort of government hand out. This will do nothing but put a huge tax burden on the working class. It's not free.

Right. Additionally it limits our choices and reduces our freedoms.

Post of the day right there.
Single payer in the US is absolutely, positively untenable.
The idiots in the US that espouse single payer have no concept of what that really means. They have no clue about the make-up of European populations that employ these systems, the vast downsides to the systems, the demographic make-up of those within the systems and just how small the population sizes are in many cases.
Anecdotally, if you have ever been to Denmark, Norway or even the UK, how many fat people did you see as compared to walking around virtually any US city? How many morbidly obese people did you see?
We have a culture of excess when it comes to food in the US. We further entrench that system by using government dollars to purchase food for individuals without any restraint on what that food really is and what it does.
Case in point, go to any grocery store that accepts EBT cards and sit an observe for 30 minutes.
You will very likely see multiple examples of grocery baskets filed to capacity with high sugar, high salt all around heart disease and diabetes breeding foods that are being paid for with tax dollars and are feeding people that are already fat and that do not exercise.

If VT wants to try it let them go ahead. It will be a good "experiment" and the right will have concrete evidence against single payer in America when it bankrupts the state.

Apparently, you haven't fully grasped the delusional liberal mindset. They will not view it as a failure. They'll just blame the Tea Party for not allowing it to be a nationwide and claim that if those damn Tea Partiers would have just allowed their dear leader to do this on a national scale, all the world's ills would be solved.
Remember, everything bad is the fault of those 20 Tea Party Congressmen.
And, if you have any doubt that they will not see it this way, just look how they see their Dear Leader. Despite the fact that everything this clown touches is an utter and abysmal failure, they still worship the ground he walks on and blames all of his failures on everyone BUT HIM (see Rex, VOR, Spidey, VB, etc.).

Just keep raising taxes like they did in France; everything will be fine.

Tennessee tried it a few years back and it was a huge flop. Other states tried it as well and found out its wasn't this 'utopia' they thought it was going to be.
BTW, even VT democrats are wanting to bail on 'single payer'.
quote:
Now, even Democrats say that plan, called Green Mountain Care, isn’t ready for its proposed 2017 rollout, and Rep. Jim Condon told Vermont Watchdog it’s time for Gov. Peter Shumlin to shelve the ambitious plan immediately.
Now here is what its starting to come down to:
quote:
Sen. Bobby Starr, another Democrat who voted against Act 48, told Vermont Watchdog in January there’s “no way” single-payer can work without new taxes. Indeed, no lawmaker has introduced any bill that would finance single-payer health care without also raising taxes.
One bill, introduced by Sen. Peter Galbraith (D-Windham), would impose a 13-percent payroll tax (11 percent on employers and 2-percent on employees) as well as a 10-percent tax on non-wage income. A second bill, also introduced by Galbraith, would phase in single-payer financing beginning in 2015 with a “transitional fund.” Galbraith’s second proposal would levy a 1.5-percent self employment tax increase in addition to reserving 7.7 percent of state income taxes for single-payer.
