The fleur de lis, a French symbol used by royal families dating back to the 13th century, and emblazoned on the New Orleans Saints helmet, is now being called a symbol of slavery, drawing comparisons to the recent uproar against the Confederate battle flag.
“As an African I find it painful, and I think people whose ancestors were enslaved here may feel it even harder than I do as an African,” said slave historian Dr. Ibrahima Seck to WWLTV. He connects the usage of the fleur de lis, to “code noir,” or black code, which was adopted in Louisiana in 1724, and used to govern to state’s slave population.
Seck said a slave caught running away, “would be taken before a court and the sentence would be being branded on one shoulder and with the fleur de lis, and then they would crop their ears.” …

People are just triggered by everything.

Probably millions Saints fans who are black and I have never once heard them upset over anything other than a shitty team. Hell, some of them are more passionate about the Saints than anything else.

This has been around for a while.

First they came for the confederate statues, but I wasn't a confederate...

Tens of thousands of black people proudly sport the Saint logo. I believe even they would fight that one.

It's got to be a way to just grab attention during this grab bag.
At least, for this Tulane professor here in New Orleans.

I guess Saints games will now have a completely different demographic in the stands.

Some slaves were branded with letters so let's ban the alphabet. Makes about as much sense.

I don't believe you. Haven't you heard that Confederate statues are all they want removed and then they will be happy.

i doubt there are more than 6 people in the greater new orleans area with that sentiment. I wouldnt worry.

Well, the Dallas Cowboys have a star on their helmets, and there were stars on the rebel flag, so they need to remove their symbol too, right?

Just wait until the race pimps figure out why LSU uses Tigers for their mascot.

Every fricking idiot wants their 15 minutes of fame, so they seek out reasons to get attention, thinking they will be memorialized for 'the cause'. They are now searching and digging to find yet another travesty.
