Amazon doesn't need it. But the USPS needs Amazon's business.

They send 1,600,000 packages per day.

The government didn't. The consumers did.

It depends. When companies that conservatives like get subsidies, they praise them as job creators.

When liberal companies get subsidies, its corporate welfare.

Learn the difference.

Ugh!

Think of volume discounts:

If you want to rent a helicopter for a 30 min ride - charge you full fee

If you own a business and want to guarantee 1000 hours of rental - you get a discount

That's great. No problem with that..... except it's being subsidized with tax payer money and they don't exactly need it.

Probably pretty accurate for comparison.

I have less of a problem with this on the principle of a high volume discount to win business than I do with Yolanda taking 23 minutes to ship one package in between naps and checking her cushy retirement were all paying for.

This is complete bullshite - but just yesterday they (or maybe via USPS) delivered three small boxes (about 8" cube) to our front door. Each of them contained a single identical item (a bottle of seasoning that my wife has a hard time finding in our area). All three bottles would have easily fit in one box with room to spare.

I look at that and said

now I guess I know.

yep - she had ordered 3 bottles of gumbo file'

I certainly do.

They are working the numbers to do just that.

Exactly. Then it helps push smaller businesses out. If you open a business you are NOT getting a gov subsidy. You will pay a higher rate.

And who exactly is paying for that 2.3 million PER DAY subsidy.... the tax payer.

Paywall, so I couldn't read the whole article, but does it say anywhere that that USPS is losing money on this deal? You're getting all worked up as if we're actually subsidizing Amazon, but do you have any idea how the situation would change if the USPS stopped giving the discount? It's very possible, if not likely, that losing the volume from Amazon would result in the USPS costing taxpayers MORE money.

Maybe supplies are limited everywhere and they had to ship from 3 different warehouses?
