Reparative justice for the continent and descendants of slaves is an issue that can no longer be ignored, Ghana’s president has said
quote:
Ghanaian President Nana Akufo-Addo is hosting a global summit to facilitate dialogue and produce an African-led action plan to seek reparations for historical injustices dating back to the slave trade and colonialism eras. The four-day Accra Reparations Conference began on Tuesday in Ghana’s capital with the president demanding financial restitution from the West, which he argued is long overdue as compensation for the horrors of the slave trade.
quote:
“It is time for Africa, thirty million of whose sons and daughters had their freedoms curtailed and sold into slavery, to also receive reparations. No amount of money can restore the damage caused by the transatlantic slave trade and its consequences... But surely, this is a matter that the world must confront and can no longer ignore,” Akufo-Addo said.
quote:
More than two million Africans are estimated to have died en route from their countries to the Americas, where slaves were used for forced labor between the 15th and 19th centuries. The transatlantic slave trade has been labeled by the UN as the largest ever forced migration.
quote:
In September, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres published a report advising Western countries on an array of measures, including financial compensation, for colonialism and the enslavement of people of African descent despite the length of time that had passed.
quote:
Ghana’s president, who had previously blamed the current economic and social problems of African nations on colonial exploitation and slavery, has called on African leaders to unite with Caribbean nations that are leading the campaign for reparative justice for descendants of the victims of slavery.

Didn't they (African countries) sell them to slave traders?

You're not supposed to bring that up

Lololololololol.
Africa really doesn't want to play this game. The math isn't in their favor.

I would tell them to keep that hand out and I will get back to them "shortly"

Factor that into Scott Adams's reparations calculation and white people are owed even more.

Instead of reparations. Why don't we just send back the ones here, they can have them back, free of charge! Win, win!

If part of the deal is sending them all back, then where do I sign up?

Slave traders never left the shores of Africa to get slaves. If they had, they would have been killed. They waiting on shore for Africans to bring them slaves for sale. Africans hunted and sold slaves. They should pay them selves reparations.

The decedents of American slaves are the most well of black people in the World.
Those in Africa should sue America for passing their ancestors by 200 years ago.

This will be a chance for American Politicians to get kickbacks.

Africans may not like Western white folk, but I guarantee you they hate American blacks even more.

The opportunities for graft are off the charts.

Its weird how this was never taught in elementary school history. I had to research this myself as an adult. I always had this image if Europeans ravaging through African villages, plummeting them, and taking slaves.
I'm not trying to celebrate the act of slavery or anything, however the entire history around it is so much more nuanced than what we were all taught.
Often in history, its best to always look at everything in both context of the time (what was acceptable across the world), and was the action uniquely or exceptionally egregious compared to other behavior at the time. In the 16th and 17th Century, slavery was just a thing and a way of life... it was only because of Western/European/Christian enlightenment that there was ever and would have ever been an opposition to slavery. And that is why it was ultimately Europeans/Westerners who abolished the practice in the the civilized world.

Theyve definitely gotten plenty from us over the years. I'm sure this will be used as a way to get money out of us or they'll allow China to do more in their nation. That will be how it's sold "to prevent putting more Chinese bases on their western coasts".
