I was just sitting here thinking, we constantly talk about countries like Iran and North Korea getting nukes but not having the delivery system for the warheads to affect the US.

It's looking more and more like the plane didn't crash, but rather was hijacked.

Is it possible terrorists or people affiliated with one of the aforementioned countries crafted a plan to steal a plane, load it down with a nuclear warhead since they have no delivery system to fire it, and fly it below the radar to some location like Israel or maybe even the US coast and detonate?

Both countries have airplanes so why do they need to steal one?

That's a long flight under the radar assuming its somewhere in SE Asia going all the way to the US.

Yeah, they could just buy an airplane without raising all of this fuss.

In the things that I consider scary, this scenario is around 997 on my list. Right behind walking into a hornets nest accidently.

The passengers being hostage would be key here. Leverage.

They'd be detected eventually and would use the hostages and make up some story about demands for money or something in order to get on the mainland without being shot down.

So your theory is that North Korea or Iran can build or obtain nuclear weapons but lacking a plane to deliver them is the big obstacle, so they hijacked and stole a 777?

Is that an accurate summary?

Yep, they have taken hostages and will return them to the USA after their demands have been met. They will specify an airport in the Central part of the country, maybe Nebraska.

The plane will be escorted by military jets but not shot down due to the hostages on board. At 35,000 feet as they make their initial descent they will detonate a nuclear weapon which will create an Electromagnetic Pulse which will cripple all electronics, power grid, etc in the USA and bring our economy to a screeching halt!

That's tough, the lower an airplane flies the more fuel its going to use.

In order to reach the U.S. mainland it would have to have a pretty opportune place to either currently be storing it now or refuel along the way.

While scary as you pointed out, probably unlikely which any scenario of it reaching the U.S.

Except maybe Hawaii

Hostages or not aboard, a renegade 777 ain't making it to Nebraska. The Malaysian 777 is in pieces right now, probably on the sea bed somewhere. Terrorists don't have to steal a jet, they can afford an alternative method of delivery that the entire world is not looking for.

Not possible and also why? If it was possible just do it with one of their planes. Sounds like you've been watching too much Fox NotNews

This. I'm a conservative and I never watch it for fear of confirmation bias. I do however watch CNN or MSNBC when Seinfeld isn't on to get a quick laugh.
