8 years of Obama vacations cost $85 million

As America’s first family enjoys its eighth and final vacation in Hawaii, new estimates put the price tag of the Obamas’ annual trip at $3.5 million or more.
In total, the cost of the the first family’s personal or largely personal travel during the last eight years comes to $85 million – though that is likely to climb to $90 million after additional records are released, according to the conservative group Judicial Watch based on federal government records.
The cost of Air Force One and other government planes as well as helicopters, cargo planes, armored cars, Secret Service protection and advance, communications and medical staff has led Judicial Watch to push for less personal travel.
“The Secret Service and the Air Force are being abused by unnecessary travel,” Judicial Watch president Tom Fitton said. “Unnecessary presidential travel for fundraising and luxury vacations on the taxpayers’ dime would be a good target for reform for the incoming Trump administration.”
President-elect Donald Trump prefers to vacation at his own properties. He is spending Christmas at Mar-A-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida, where he stayed for Thanksgiving. After the election, he spent a weekend at Bedminster golf club in New Jersey, which has fueled speculation that it could be Trump’s Camp David.

Critics of Obama’s annual vacations to Hawaii and Martha’s Vineyard say President George W. Bush – and perhaps Trump – likely saved money because their vacation homes, including Bush’s ranch in Crawford, Texas, were modified one time – some at a cost to taxpayers – and accommodated some of the traveling entourage. At Bush’s ranch, some slept in trailers.
How much of this went to the national debt?

NY is spending $1 mill per day to guard Trump Tower and the missus.
And they want federal taxpayers to foot the bill.

I'm less concerned about this than I am plenty of other things he's done. It cost big money for the president to go anywhere. I have no doubt Bush's coast a boatload as well, it just comes with the job.

This is the second report that I have seen that said 85 million. I heard another report on it a couple of days ago.

Nobody who holds public office should be spending $85 million dollars of the governed's money to go on vacays. That's ridiculous

Thread about Obama. You bring up Trump. Nice.

$85M, apparently.
Now, how has the Republican congress offset that $85M in spending, over the past ~6 years?
What a weak criticism. Even if you think he was terrible, Obama was the president. He has those presidential privileges at his disposal.

NY congressman says feds must pay for Trump's NYPD protection
By Kyle Feldscher (@kyle_feldscher) • 12/28/16 9:05
The federal government should be footing the bill for security at Trump Tower while President-elect Trump is in New York, a Republican congressman close to the transition said Wednesday.
Rep. Chris Collins, Republican - N.Y., said on CNN that the New York Police Department providing security for the incoming president is an unusual expense.
"It would be a tremendous burden on the local taxpayers and it's an appropriate expense for the federal government," Collins said.
Protecting Trump Tower is costing New York City taxpayers an estimated $1 million per day. The Trump camp and New York City officials engaged in a Twitter spat Tuesday over the cost of that protection after the NYPD ordered Trump Tower evacuated when a suspicious package was found. The package contained toys.
Collins said the federal government must pick up the bill both in New York and in Palm Beach, Fla.
"We have an extraordinary president who has two places where he lives, and it should not be a burden to the local taxpayer," Collins said.
Collins also said Trump deserves credit for the economic optimism surging through Wall Street as the stock market climbs in the wake of the election (Dow Jones -111 points).
After Trump congratulated himself for the increase in consumer confidence, Collins said Trump is not responsible for the state of the economy. However, the recovery under President Obama and Trump's election brings new hope, Collins said.
"The economy under Obama, the low unemployment numbers, … suddenly that pessimism has turned into optimism," he said.

So, a Republican congressman said it will cost $70 million for Wackenhut services to Trump Tower.
Figure does not include guard service for Palm Beach. Both probably exceed $85 million.
All before Trump assumes office.
