HuffPost is hitting the road with 23-city bus tour through Middle America https://politi.co/2ulVaF6

It's like Lion Country Safari, except with redneckshttps://twitter.com/mlcalderone/status/885459341545025538 …

After viewing the ceremonial rain dance, make sure to visit the gift shop for genuine authentic-style Middle American souvenirs

Can you imagine the awkward conversations they are going to have as they try to relate to flyover country residents? https://www.politico.com/story/2017/07/13/huffington-post-middle-america-240476 …

Though many of the cities the group is visiting voted for Hillary Clinton in last year’s election, all but two of the states went to Trump. But Polgreen says they’re not visiting “Trump country,” pointing to a reason for each city or state on the tour like an interesting community college system in Fort Wayne or Detroit’s large Arab-American population. Hillary Frey, HuffPost’s director of editorial strategy who came up with the bus tour idea, also pointed out that logistically it didn’t make sense to go to the corners of the country where the distance from one city to the next would be too far.

Could they be any more out of touch or condescending?

Good job Huffpo, alienate potential readers.

Gee I wonder what story they plan to tell from this visit to the "red" states.
Are they also planning to hit up the local planned Parenthood clinics as well for more red state feedback about Trump?

NPR did this same thing during the election. The utter disbelief of the NPR person upon hearing there were farmers, plant workers, service industry employees, etc.... that were excited about Trump caring about them was hillarious

Give them some time baw. They're just getting their Smugitron 5000 warmed up.
I'm sure the resulting writeup will be enlightening.

I look forward to the report on how amazing it was to find these antiquated people actually growing their own vegetables and going to church and such. What a wild and wacky bunch they are.

yes, make fun of the places in America where you can go out at night and leave your doors unlocked.

Let's insult half of America!
Wait why aren't you people voting for us?!

Reread the OP. They're only going to "safe spaces" in the red states.
I can already write the article for them:
"surprisingly little support for trump these days in the flyover states.".
"We asked ooga booga Muhammad at the local mosque what people in Kansas City think of Trump"
"Later we caught up with a professor of gender studies at the local community college to ask her what the community thinks 6 months into a Trump presidency."
"Finally we met with a grandmother who will lose her medical coverage under the Republican plan what she thinks about Trump"

staff members led by editor-in-chief Lydia Polgreen will visit more than 20 cities, eschewing the coasts for the likes of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Oxford, Mississippi and Odessa, Texas. At each city, the site will host events, roll out planned stories with local media outlets, send out reporters to write about the communities and collect stories from residents “in their own words.”
quote:
“We are in a moment for [determining] our own identity and the role we play in the overall news ecosystem and what the next iteration of that looks like. And this felt like a great way to go out and … report out the story of who we should be in the world.”
quote:
"All of these ideological divisions [in the media] are confusing right now and for me it’s less about left or right — it’s who are you more oriented toward, more oriented to the interest of the wealthy and powerful or are you orientated toward the people who are not in the top 20 percent."
