What did you guys think of the late hit?

I thought the late hit on the last drive was absolute and total garbage. Alehm was there within 2 seconds of the ball leaving Todd's hand. I'm glad our defense stepped up and took care of business anyway, but that could have cost us the game. I think the refs just pissed Alehm off, because that sack was just brutal. He left the tackle set in concrete.

Did you guys also notice that Tubby lobbied for a late hit on the last throw? Whoever made the hit got there even earlier on that play. I was glad to see the refs didn't fall for that one.

It was close, and seemed pretty questionable, but some refs are very prone to overly protecting QB's. It happens.

Probably didn't help that he hit him low.

I thought it was picky, but callable. He was able to see the ball get out, and take a full step and change. It shouldn't be regarded as fishy, either way.

Absolutely agree. Had that one been called, I would have thrown a "Shenanigans" flag.

I think it was a good call honestly. Not only did the QB get up limping but the ball was CLEARLY well released when he hit him. If he just released and the ball wasn't but a few feet away, then I could see the argument but it wasn't even close IMO...

Think about a QB throwing the ball.

Then think about how long 2 seconds is.

That is late, and the hit was late.

Solid call.

Good call on Alem.
I thought he got there late, but I thought it was a great no call on the last play. No helmet to helmet and Pittman was there a nano second after he released the ball.
Tubby was just desperate at that point and that was his last chance to somehow keep the ball in his teams hands.

Our guy was in the air when Auburn's QB let go of the ball. A late hit call then would have been so blatantly wrong. That would have been amazing had they made that call.

Bad call period. Look at the replay. How are you suppose to stop your progress that close to the release of the ball. Come on.

By the time i came to the conclusion that it could of been 'leading with your helmet' they stopped playing the replay.

Thats the only possible way of that being a late hit/personal foul because he was in the air when Todd threw the ball...

He was rushing from the QB's blind side. He would have no way of knowing if he threw the ball, or he pump faked and held on to the ball.

I thought it was an ok hit. He didn't go for the head and he didn't body slam him. It was just a hit. To me, if you get there within two seconds, you should be allowed to dish out a hit on the qb. I wouldn't have been as upset to see it in the first quarter, but this was the game deciding drive.

FWIW, a former high school ref was watching the game with me and he said he would have let it go after seeing the replay.

That will be called 95% of the time.

No clue how anyone thinks otherwise.

Why cant he see if a QB is throwing or not from the blind side?

I thought the officials called the game right tonight. We got Lester's facemak prett good once in the 1st half and it wasn't called.

I think the SEC sent a message to the officils to let us play and we did.

Lafell wasn't undressed in the endzone either

That's why it shouldn't be regarded as fishy, either way. You can't bulldoze a QB, even from the blindside, because you can't tell if he pump fakes, or whatever. It was a judgment call, and as an Auburn fan I wouldn't have found that it was a bad "no call", and as an LSU fan I don't find it a bad call.

The other one (which, for the record was correctly NOT called) that Tubby lobbied for was what we refer to in the industry as "football" and should not have been called, and was not called.
