Because if they wrote illegibly they'd be doctors.

Thats proper engineering script, so that everyone who looks at it can read it.

Why do engineers write in small, all capital letters?

Because cursive was a 3rd grade course, they didn't make that far.

I do it quite often too. Seems like a lot of people have totally eschewed cursive in adulthood.

Side question: Should cursive even be taught anymore? I vote for no.

back in the days before computers everything was lettered by hand and it just carries over.

and don't hate cause you struggle with the math to balance your checkbook

If you were my derivative, could I lie tangent to your curves?

I do it strictly for legability.

If I write neatly, my secretary doesn't get pissed, and I get to see more leg.

I'm an attorney, and I do it. Of course, I was an EE undergrad at LSU.

My dad is an engineer and doesn't write like this but he has the neatest handwriting ever so I guess he doesn't have to.

Architects, Engineers, Landscape Architects and Draftsman all use single stroke lettering. Historically, when we had to hand draft everything, we used a straight edge (triangle usually) and T-square to draw the single stroke lines that make up a letter; we didn't just "freehand" them. It is easier to use all caps when doing this. Even though we use Cad now, Capital letters are so ingrained in the profession that no one uses small caps.

I write like that when filling out forms and whatnot. Pretty much just because I'm awesome.

I was a computer draftsman, and before I got to the computer course we had to do everything by hand. This is the way I was taught. It's just more legible.

Single Stroke, Uppercase, Vertical Gothic Lettering. Like the guys above said - the way it is taught.
