“Everyone has a role,” McCarthy said. “You can be a team guy and do your role until it’s your turn to be the top guy, or you’ve got some guys who want to bitch and moan about it and they never become a team guy and never really help contribute because they want to transfer and always be the (top) guy and never want to wait their turn to be the guy.” This comes from the advocate article that praises C.Mitchell for waiting his turn.

He is merely complimenting Mitchell who instead of sulking and bitching, kept a good attitude and when he was needed he was ready. It's a success story that is repeated over and over.

sounds like to me he is talking about a hypothetical, not calling out any LSU player specifically...

notice that we are SPECULATING (yeah, look it up)

It's not a huge leap in logic. Toliver was running 3rd on the depth chart for most of the spring/Fall, now he's basically non-existent in games. I think it's pretty obvious that he's talking about someone on this year's team.

Got any other candidates?

read where it says TERRANCE TOLLIVER

It's definitely not obvious. In fact, it's closer to a stretch than obvious.

He's probably talking about more than one...why not, if the shoe fits, wear it! If not, go barefooted!

Sounds to me like he has seen it before, not just throwing out a hypothetical. Now whether it applies to a particular LSU player that is currently on the team, no one can say.

You're right in the sense that the quote does not necessarily refer to an LSU player and may be a hypothetical.

Unfortunately, in the context of an LSU player, Toliver immediately stood out when I read the quote. Again, I hope my instinct is incorrect.
