I thought Superman Returns was a decent flick, but I guess they want to make Superman darker.

Superman doesn't have nearly the good villains that Spiderman/Batman have. I mean he has who? Lex Luther and Bizarro? That's about he only noteworthy villains the superman universe has. Plus Superman is just so damn overpowered it's not even funny.

doomsday is a good villain.

Smallville has been a good show and the way they have used villains there has been great.

The Superman movies have sucked since part 2. Three was ok and great when I was a kid but when I watched it again as an adult it was not very good. Four should just be forgotten.

Returns was not a super hero movie it was a stupid love story.

The thing about the Batman reboot and making it darker though was that is the way Batman (through the comics) was intended to be in the first place. Superman was never intended to be so.

I don't think they necessarily need to make it "darker." Look at the recent Superman animated series... it was pretty good, and it wasn't "dark." Neither is "Justice League," which is also good, and VERY Superman-heavy.

I think the key here is creating interesting villains for Superman to fight. Let's give the people what they want. Rachet up the Superman action, and tone down the love interest stuff. Let the War Worlders invade... bring on Doomsday... get some epic asskicking going!

You don't even need a villain from the comic books... just SOMETHING interesting and threatening, and something that doesn't necessarily rely on kryptonite.

Superman vs. an alien invasion, for instance. Sure, they don't have to threaten Superman individually, but they can threaten the people of Earth effectively enough. That creates a compelling enemy.

I just think that they have Superman on a leash, when it comes to the movies. Turn Big Blue loose, let the bodies hit the floor, and watch the $$$$$ roll in!

Damned shame actually. SR was a good movie, but it was too much of an homage to the Donner film and it alienated the fanboys. I thought Routh did a fine job and was counting on Singer to deliver a much punchier second act (similar to how X2 was such an improvement over X-Men).

The problem is that Superman is not, nor has he ever been, a "dark" character. You might recall they tried such a departure in III, but that was such a damned disgrace generally, people forget about that part of it.

Just because you are the worlds greatest superhero, that does not mean that your movies will be the most successful.

I agree Superman was never dark, but it would be kind of cool if the did a movie or two about the death of Superman. That was preety good. This movie sucked, I liked Kevin Spacy as Lex, but Superman having a kid to relate to todays audience was a bad idea.

Once again, DC realizes Marvel is superior in every way.

-Fly
-Shoot lasers out of his eyes
-Freeze breath
-super strength
-super speed
- oh and bullets bounce right off of him.

that's why death of superman was so good.

i think making that into the movie would be great.

I actually prefer Superman way more that Batman. The thing that irks me with Batman is he's just an ordinary person who had a shitload of money to build some stuff.

Superman Returns was just a shitty movie and offered nothing to the Superman mythos. If they do the death of Superman story like Karma said then they have something.

That is not "superman." I thought that article was about "superman," but I only saw this arse-clown in a blue and silver halloween costume...

the character was created how many years ago?

I don't like any "super heroes" that don't have powers as much as say the Superman's, Spiderman's, etc

but the guy is practically invincible, so where does that get interesting for the audience.

the main character has to have some flaws, and a weakness or 2. otherwise, whesre the drama.

thats why batman will always be the better story. he doesnt have any powers. he is a regular person who jumps off a roof and kicks arse, but he could die as easily as any other crime fighter. plus he has serious character issues.

superman is just boring
