OM traditionally, but objectively it's Auburn right now.

But i am biased and want to say it's OM, but it's not. I live amongst the arrogant pricks so i would naturally want to pick them.

If i were them, i would start worrying a little more about MSU, than LSU b/c the way things are going with Croom, he's building one hell of a team in the next couple of years.

True. I look for them to be a competitive program in a few years. It will be a sad day for OM fans when the pride of their state is MSU.

I'm a traditionalist so I say Ole Miss. It would add to the game if they were a top 15 team again.

Bama, Auburn, and Florida are bigger games because they are competitive but Ole Miss is still our main rival.

Our biggest rivalry changes based on competitiveness of the teams, coaching changes, and actions of opposing coaches, players, or fans. True rivalries are not dependent on such factors. Here is a copy of my post on this same topic a few months back.

quote:

It is easy to call Bama, Auburn, or Ole Miss our rivals, but to be a true rivalry game, both teams must look at the game somewhat equally. Also, for rivalry games, records don't matter, you just hate the other team just for existing.

For Bama, we are #3 at best(Auburn and Tennessee). Until we beat them 5 in a row, Bama didn't care about us. Now they have our ex-coach. Big deal.

For Auburn, we are #3 at best(Bama and Georgia). We have a good competitive series with Auburn and have always been on a similar level in the SEC. There is some hatred because of some things that happened over the past 10 years. Still, 3rd best isn't good enough for a true rivalry.

For Ole Miss, we are #2 at best(Miss St.). Traditionally, this was our closest thing to a rivalry, but lately the competition is not there.

For Florida, we are #4 at best(Georgia, Tennessee, and FSU). Like Auburn, this has become a competitive series, but a true rivalry? I think not.

For Arkansas, we are #2 at best (Texas). The SEC rightfully tried to push this as a rivalry game. It should have worked: bordering states, somewhat competitive teams, neither has a true natural rivalry, cool trophy that looks like a boot. What more could we ask for? Unfortunately, it just hasn't happened. Maybe there just isn't enough history yet. Petrino and Miles could help, as they are both coaches that are easy for opposing fans to hate.

In conclusion, LSU is a team with several secondary type rivalries, but no primary rivalries. The number of topics posted on this board asking who's our #1 rivalry should tell us we don't have one. If we had one, most of us would be able to agree on who it is and others wouldn't have to ask. Personally, I want to beat Bama and Auburn more than the others, but that's because I live in Alabama and deal with their fans everyday.

LSU-Ole Miss can't really be considered a true rivalry any more because it has lost one crucial element: the outcome of the game has to be important to both fan bases regardless of who wins.

LSU has beaten Ole Miss six straight times, but if I went up to an Ole Miss fan and pointed this out, he'd probably shrug and say it was no big deal. Contrast that with Auburn-Alabama. When Auburn fans point out that they've beaten Alabama six in a row, it really chaps the Bammers' asses.

LSU-Ole Miss and LSU-Tulane are only big games if LSU loses. That's not enough for a rivalry.

LSU-Florida and LSU-Alabama can't really be considered true rivalries either because there just isn't the level of animosity and hate that a rivalry requires. Maybe some has grown recently with Bama's hiring of Saban, but that's about it. The same is pretty much true of LSU-Arkansas and LSU-Mississippi State.

LSU-Auburn is probably the closest thing to a true rivalry that LSU has going right now. There's a healthy dislike, built not only on the competitiveness of the series, but also on extraneous events that have taken place between the programs. It's huge to both fan bases no matter who wins the games, so that element is there.

A rivalry doesn't have to be competitive, although it helps. But it needs a lot of emotion. It's got to really hurt to lose to a team AND it's got to really hurt them to lose to you. I just don't think losing to LSU really hurts the Ole Missies all that much any more.

That's b/c they were expecting the arse whipping.

You see, that's where you are wrong. It bothers the hell out of them. They just know they are going to get beat so they play it off like they don't care. They actually know they suck. It's gradually getting back to the way they used to be since they have hired Nutt. They are talking about Jevan Snead like they talked about Michael "Vick" Spurlock. Alot of their fans are expecting 8 wins this year and possibly one of their lock wins being LSU.

But, You go back to '03 and brag about that win, and they will want to cut your nuts off.

It's only natural that Arkansas and LSU will become chief rivals over the course of time. In fact, in my view its a foregone conclusion.

I disagree. It's not enough that the series be competitive or that there be high stakes involved every year. There's got to be some plain unadulterated hate between the schools' fan bases, and that's just not there with the Pigs. Arkie fans are just not obnoxious enough, not trashy enough, not big enough assholes to really inspire the kind of hatred that Ole Miss and Tulane fans have over the years, and Auburn has recently. Mere geographic proximity and competitive balance do not a true rivalry make.

This is more true than most people think. Arkansas fans are just not mean enough.
Plus, it really doesn't help that we play on Thanksgiving, a naturally nice and family oriented holiday when a lot of students are out of town and not boozed up.

got news for you also, that happens everywhere. Just ask any fan from any school and the worst fans in the SEC are unanimously LSU fans.

Really? I guess it doesn't surprise me, but, really?

Of course not. It makes some jealous bastards happy to believe it, so they post it on a message board. But practically every opposing fan base who actually experiences dealing with LSU fans finds just the opposite to be true.

I disagree. Arkansas fans are accommodating and usually as friendly as LSU fans are when tailgating. Ole Piss and Oxford gets downright nasty and you have to admit that a loss to Ole Piss just fricking sucks!

Oh I think you'll be sick of Arkie fans soon. Not trashy enough huh?

Its going to change. You might want to ask some Texas fans what they've thought of Arkie fans over the years prior to joining the SEC. I think many would disagree with you.

I have a number of friends who went to the University of Arkansas and they 'try' to rub it in that they beat us at LSU. Of course, mentioning that I'll take that loss and win a national title any day of the week does no good. I'm not sure if folks realize how intense Arkansas fans can be. Ole Miss? Nobody really cares.
