ESPN: LSU Coach Les Miles and his staff spent the past weekend in Spartanburg, SC, huddled with the Wofford College coaches in an attempt to game plan for the Appalachian State juggernaut.

Coach Miles stated “While the meeting was very intense and a great deal of information and film was shared with us, the damned strong Wofford coaching staff is still stunned that they were able to defeat the Mountaineers. The general consensus appears to be that their victory was the sole result of divine intervention. Because we have less than 60 days to prepare for our game, we are asking that all our great fans join us in daily prayer that we too might receive divine intervention because, guys, this might be our only hope for victory.”

Our ESPN Game Day crew viewed tape of the Coach Miles interview and each man was impressed with the sincerity of Coach Miles. Coach Lou Holtz noted the tears forming in Miles’ eyes as he asked for supporting prayer and vowed to give a pre-game pep talk for LSU irregardless of where he might be that day – at least, we think that is what Lou was saying.

I dont think our offense will have a problem going against your defense, the problem will be how to stop your offense.

Yes, Virginia, it is a word. Maybe I should use common words so as not to confuse the less educated.

Merriam-Webster

“irregardless”

“Main Entry: ir•re•gard•less
Pronunciation: \ˌir-i-ˈgärd-ləs\
Function: adverb
Etymology: probably blend of irrespective and regardless
Date: circa 1912
nonstandard : regardless
usage Irregardless originated in dialectal American speech in the early 20th century. Its fairly widespread use in speech called it to the attention of usage commentators as early as 1927. The most frequently repeated remark about it is that “there is no such word.” There is such a word, however. It is still used primarily in speech, although it can be found from time to time in edited prose. Its reputation has not risen over the years, and it is still a long way from general acceptance. Use regardless instead.”

you think it is more educated to add "ir" to a word when it doesn't add any additional meaning to the word? That makes you more educated?

Well, “irregardless” may be in the dictionary but it's only used by idiots. I like how you tried to make it seem like a big vocabulary word though. That was a nice touch.

Hot damn, you caught me out. Guess I also shouldn’t try to use light sarcasm.

And “irregardless” isn’t really a four-bit word. It is more of a half dime word (and yes, there was a half dime coin).

However, it was still in common usage when I was in school but I guess it has gone the way of other such words / phrases as “T backfield”, “cross buck”, and my favorite “split T”.

The dumbing down of America at its best. Idiots use it, so let's put it in the dictionary so they feel better about themselves.
