Interesting take by Bill King.

He said that if/when Miles leaves, its "One hell of a job"

On Saban: "Been there done that"

Also said he doesnt think LSU is a job where you have to have a big name/big money guy. It is a great job and many people would do well. They just need to get a good coach and that doesnt mean someone is has won big already.

Finished with this quote

"If LSU hired Mike Leach at a place where he could recruit defense, God help everybody"

Interesting, I have wondered what he could do at a place where he had a defense.

Nothing really.

The reason his offenses are so explosive and defenses so lackluster is because he always uses his best athletes on O.

That offense is not conducive to having a good defense. They create a lot of possesions by throwing the ball around so much...the clock is always stopped. His teams will always give up 35+ points a game...the defense just gets too worn out.

He doesn't run cause he hasn't been able to recruit good backs. I live in Texas and watch Tech play all the time. It is true, everyone here says the same thing..."If Tech could play defense they would be unstoppable". I also understand he attends after game party's with the players, this might keep some out of trouble...

I wonder too what Leach would do if he was at a big school. I don't worry about the whole "The Texas Tech offense wouldn't work in the SEC" thing. I don't think he'd run that offense here. I think he runs it there because he needs to do something to attract a few athletes to Lubbock. He didn't run that offense as OC at Oklahoma.

However, I would be concerned about whether he would be able to put together an effective defense.

That is also my sentiment...it doesn't need to be a big name...

this is something that a lot of people around here don't seem to get. i'd be just as happy with chris petersen or brian kelly as i would with an aging spurrier or an overrated saban

If you like 7-4 seasons with losses to Auburn, Bama, Florida and Arkansas every year, hire Leach. But you will be able to beat ULM, MTSU by 70.

I look at what Mark Richt is doing at UGA and think we might go the way of a young guy who is a good coach and hire some top notch assistants.

I really like Greg Schiano and I know he turned down the U and did not have quite the year he did last year but I really like hte way he coaches. Lots of energy and his defenses are agressive.

Chicken-
I agree a capable coach (and decent recruiter)could win consistently here (see Les Miles)- but a big name, proven winner would have us in position to contend for the NC every year.

The problem is that big name, proven winners hardly ever leave their current job...

I like Bill King, but I don't think LSU needs to roll the dice on someone like Leach. I remember the Cotton Bowl a couple of years ago when 'Bama held that explosive offense to 10 points (and the TD was with a minute or two left)....Just one game, granted, but.....

Yep. Alot of people can't understand that......

They think LSU is the college football capital of the world. That just makes them nothing more than a average silly football fan.

I agree and that's why the whole Bill Cowher thing is ridiculous. King even said this morning that Bill's not about to leave a high 6 figure tv salary for a game he's already surpassed.

Don't get me confused. I like some of the big names that are out there and available. My God, I'd just love to see what SOS would do to this club. I like Saban as a coach and I'll always be grateful for what he did at LSU. But yeah...just as easily, a guy like Brain Kelly or Jeff Bower, as long as he could recruit, could come in and get the job done, i am certain.

With half a defense Mike Leach would kill the SEC!

Maybe, but his defense held Alabama to 13 points and lost.....It would be fun to watch I agree. Just not sure it would work week in and week out.
