Again, I'm assuming you do all this while precariously hanging from the rock face?

Yep! As the lead climber it's your responsibility to place the rope anchors every few feet up the rock face to ensure that if you do fall off, you don't fall far.

Hammering them into a crack is what I think. Notice in the picture that they are different shapes and sizes for different cracks.

I am assuming that while you set one, you are tied off below with a partner belaying you. I am not a rock climber but know a lot of trivia.

Do they ever slip or fall out? I mean if you slip and fall there is obviously going to be an extreme amount of torque on them so what keeps them from dislodging. I also guess rock climbers tend to be lean light framed people. I can't see a line backer being a good candidate for the sport.

That's exactly how it's done. The sport is all about trust. Trusting your partner, the equipment, & your ability. I can't climb anymore because I lost the ability.

Climbers have to have a good understanding of physics. I typically used Wedges in places where you want more support if you fall like overhangs & slight inclines & spring loaded cams where the linear motion of a fall gets transfered to a more rotative motion. The technology has come a long way. I'm sure there is plenty of research 'on the line' to answer the specifics of what you want to know. As I mentioned before, it's about trusting the equipment & trusting your judgements. If you really want to see how big your huevos are, try anchoring a sleeping rig 200 feet up shear Rock cliff with nothing but a handful of cams and a few ropes. Definitely a unique experience.

No thanks. My nuts aren't that big. I'll leave that to you guys. I'll stay on the flats here in south La.
