So, the Cubs are set to call up their #2 (or, arguably #1) prospect SS Addison Russell today. He will be in the lineup today and play 2B.

There hasn't been any official corresponding roster move as of yet that I can find, but the word is that Arismendy Alcantara (.077 BA) will head to Iowa to open a spot on the 25 man roster. As for the 40-man roster spot, someone will likely need to either be DFA'd or transferred to the 60-day DL. A likely DFA would be Jonathan Herrera, but what will be even more likely is that either of Dallas Beeler or Mike Olt will be transferred to the 60-day DL.

The Cubs are playing great, meaningful baseball so far in April. This is an exciting time as it's been a long time since we've been this excited about the MLB product...MiLB, sure, but now the first wave is here. Bask in the glory, and revel in the tears of the nobelievers.

I don't know what other people think on the outside, but this honestly just feels different. There is something different going on now, and it feels like a smarter, aggressive kind of ball. And the time put in to accumulate and develop talent is starting to show up in the box score.

I have to calm down, though. We are only 4 games into the Krismas season and now Russell Gras is upon us. Pitchers will adjust, they will go through rough times...but for us, we can finally enjoy Cubs baseball again. That is just step 1, though.

Absolutely. I haven't been this excited....or even paid this much attention to a season in a long time.

Well rizzo does have 3 SBs. That's about the most aggressive you'll ever see a team.

I'm loving this. The few years have been absolutely painful and all we heard about was "the plan". It's finally coming full circle and I just can't help but be excited. I don't think we'll be competing for a pennant this year but if these young guys can learn on the fly, I think we have a chance to make some noise.

Eta: that lineup from 2012 is atrocious

A year a head of schedule no less. I didn't expect the cubs to go get a top arm, promote top prospects and be really concerned about april games this year, at least not as "the plan" was laying it out.

also love that castro is our grizzly old veteran on on the infield at the ripe age of barely 25.

I know this is not the right thread for this, but figured yesterday's game thread might not get much attention. What happened last night in the 5th? I was passively following the game with ESPN Gamecast and saw 2 runs scored in the inning, then next time I looked at it, only 1 run scored. Was there a challenge, or ESPN putting up bad info?

There was a challenge and Rizzo was out at the plate

It looked inconclusive to me but they still changed the call

Still not sure how they overturned the safe call. Then was even more surprised they didn't rule he blocked the plate when maddon challenged it.
