questions about getting fish home from cabo

I have read that it is better to bring an ice chest from home and check it on the plane because the price of an ice chest in cabo is very expensive. The charter also has an option of buying fish boxes to ship your catch but I don't know how much that is
Anyone with experience doing this that can offer some good advice?

IDK specifics for cabo.
That being said I know that there are wax coated cardboard boxes that are leak proof and air travel approved. They fold down for packing to location and then fold out and fill for return in cargo hold. What ever you catch you can wrap in multiple layers of newspaper and hard freeze for 24 hours and should need no ice in the box for return trip. For extra protection look into those ziplock easily packed vacuum seal bags and devices.
I can give definitive advice that it is a bad idea to try to board a domestic flight with a homemade handled suitcase containing a 20" lake trout whole but gutted hard frozen and wrapped in multiple layers of newspaper and duct tape. TSA was certain I had a bomb until I finally convinced them to xray the damn thing and they saw the bones.

We would just bring our catch to local restaraunts and have them cook it for us for dinner and gave the rest to the deckhands.

had some friends bring some tuna back from Costa Rica. not sure why, but U S Customs gave them a hard time on re-entry.

Not trying to be an arse, but if you're looking for meat, go to Venice.
If you're looking for fun, go out of the country.
