What am I in for?

Maybe the best tv series of all time, that's about it.

Have you seen Breaking Bad? The Wire? Game of Thrones?
Yes?
Don't expect those.
The Sopranos is more comparable to Mad Men. Very slow developing seasons. Lots of character development. GREAT acting for the most part.
You watch The Sopranos to fall in love with that family, that mob, and somehow, that area of New Jersey. You aren't going to get a lot of suspenseful moments. They're here and there and are great when they show up, but it's more of a really, really, really good soap opera.

Does anybody else see a gun in the place of the r every time they see the name Sopranos?

Definitely didnt fall in love with that family. Im sure if i rewatched Sopranos today i would still very much enjoy it. But i dont think it transcends time quite as well as The Wire has.

AJ Soprano was a SJW before it became a thing.

Carmela dropped the ball on purpose.

I started it a month ago and am half way through the last season.
It's definitely a series you need to watch. Honestly I think it is good but somewhat overrated. Just never got fully into it or gave a damn about any of the characters. It is compelling at times but pretty meh at other times. I haven't seen the last episode yet but have heard a lot about it. If I'd watched it as it aired I'd probably have been pissed, but thinking about it I kind of like what they did.

Abort! Abort!
But for reals, it's highly overrated and the acting is terrible outside of gandolfini and his old lady.
Downvote away.

********POTENTIAL SPOILERS***************************
Michael Imperioli was fantastic, I thought. Melfi was okay, but the scenes with her didn't always grab me until the end. I thought her "Oh, shite!" moment about the Yochelson study was pretty neat.
Steven Van Zandt is obviously not an actor, but I feel they kept him in a certain comfort zone, so he didn't have to do too much.
Paulie was an idiot...maybe a bit of a caricature, but who hasn't known someone like that? The show at least was self-aware about him (The joke repeating thing, Tony considering killing him on the boat because he never shut up).
Meadow and AJ were brats. What else did you expect them to be? They were the kids of a wealthy degenerate mob boss and woman who never worked a day in her life. Of course they were going to be brats! Of course you were supposed to hate them. They both went through an "I'm gonna change the world" phase. Meadow working at the broke-arse law center, and AJ......uh....Railing against the system after reading internet articles, but they both fell back into the lap of luxury at the end. Neither were stellar actors, but I think people confuse AJ being a shithead character with Iler being a shitty actor.
Nancy Marchand was great as Tony's mom. I hated every word that came out her her and Janice's mouths. They did a great job at making me hate them. I think Aida Turturro's performances are criminally underrated. She nailed being a borderline personality/manipulator
Uncle Junior? Come on, that guy was amazing. He did tough guy, frustrated guy, cunnilingus guy, all the way to feeble mental patient with hardly an ember of life burning from behind his eyes
How can you say the many bit players were not great in their roles?
-Johnny Sack....awesome...they even managed to give him some depth...
-Tony Blundetto came out of nowhere, but had a lot of depth to him. Years in the can, two kids, wanted to go straight, but decided to take the easy way to the cash again. Who knew Steve Buscemi would make a good gangster?
-Joey Pants as Ralphie....great job at being a huge enough piece of shite that even other murderers/thugs/gangsters thought he was odorous. "University" episode for the win.
-Phil Leotardo....the guy plays the same role in everything, but it's a good role. His rants towards the end were epic.
-Adriana was a pretty good story line. She had a couple levels to her. Definitely had some Jersey in her.
-Bobby Bacala....one of the more decent people.....Think about him every time I play Monopoly now
I thought there were tons of great performances, and your arse should thank it for existing....because there's a good chance many of the prestige dramas of today wouldn't exist....or exist in the capacity you see them today.

Yeah, I've acknowledged that in the past threads on here. That is really my only take away from the show, that it definitely opened the doors for other better dramas. Though I think oz had something to do with that as well, on a smaller scale.
