Carroll should be a target. They need more help on the wing. I fear he will be offered more than the MLE though. Meeks got $6M and Ariza got $8M last summer. Carroll could easily slide in between the two.

The Pels won't have much cap space even if they make a big trade. Carroll signed for 2/$5 2 years ago. They likely can't afford him now. They need to find the next Carroll.

Carroll will be out of our price range (assuming we re-sign Asik).

I think Mike Dunleavy Jr. is the guy we should target. Would be a good vet to have on the team. Spaces the floor. Could also eat some of Ryno's minutes if he continues to play poorly next year.

I hate to say it bc Ive grown to respect and really like EG but I think he should be moved. Same goes for Ryno. And Id hope it would be for draft picks and cap room...use our extra cap on DeMarre Carroll and Brandon Bass

Starting lineup: Tyreke, QPon, Carroll, AD, Asik (2 shooters/defenders, Reke to create for everyone, Asik as the defensive anchor, while AD becomes the focal point - all while creating mismatches in the back court)

Second Unit: Cole, Jrue, Bass, Ajinca, (FA or piece in the Ryno and EG trade)

-the only drawback IMO to all this is you obviously are losing 2 of your 3 point specialists

That's a huge drawback. AD is significantly more effective with spacing. Even though Ryan Anderson is playing like shite, AD is that much better with him on the floor vs. Asik.

You can't make a decision on Asik based on this series alone, but it definitely hurts when we're playing 4-on-5 on offense and the Warriors are using Asik's defender to effectively double AD.

I'm so bad at figuring out the offseason moves in the NBA. The cap and all of the little exceptions are difficult to get right, and I can almost never figure out what they are going to do. So many ways, trades, etc. Its so unpredictable.

Whatever we do, I'm sure I won't have thought of it.

This SF FA market is hard to figure too. There are so many guys on it that Carroll getting the MLE isn't crazy or Atlanta having to pay $10 to keep him isn't crazy either.

Yes, they will.

Golden State will match whatever offer, though.

Carroll is most valuable to a team like ATL.

did yall see how Lance Stephenson has crashed and burned after leaving Indy?

that is Demare Carroll. Might not be as bad of a crash, but he wont be the same player. Dude is 29 as well.

FWIW giving MLE-type money to wings who will be on the wrong side of 30 by the middle of the deal is a classic mistake that ends up hurting teams big time on the back end of those deals. It's happened twice in recent memory just with this franchise (MoPete, Posey), but there are tons of examples.

Pels need to tread lightly if they are going to throw the whole MLE at someone. Might be smarter to go for a single rather than a home run, and keep some flexibility for Dell to work some magic.

Also read that Knicks were going after Tobias Harris. Still don't think Atlanta lets Carroll walk but they are kind of odd, so you never know.

I dunno about that. Carroll is on a smart team that understands his limited talents.

Lance is a head case, but a much more talented player. I have no idea why Charlotte signed him. They have no shooters; Lance can't shoot. They have Kemba and Al to soak up possessions; Lance wants/needs the ball and shots. He went from potential All-Star to DNP-CD at 24. It's similar to Josh Smith in Detroit. All but the very best players require proper context to be good.

A Carroll type can fit on any team that asks him to spot up and play defense. You ask him to attack off the bounce, then there are bigger problems than a bad contract in your organization.

as i understand it the MLE contract value is not tied to the salary cap number...as the cap skyrockets in 16- 18 the MLE does not. its a $5MM contract for one to four years, escalating to 6MM in 2019. once the camp jumps after next year a $5MM contract isnt going to get you much of a player
