gotta say.......i'm pretty excited with his decision. yep....we always wanted our kids to go to college but, for some reason, i'm really thrilled that he wants to get a trade in this field instead.

Nothing wrong with that at all. Know a couple electricians and both do very well for themselves

You should try to steer him towards being a plant operator.

Remind him that he's gonna be a grunt for awhile but if he sticks with it he can do well. This applies to all skilled trades btw

Good for him. Too many kids waste time in college on their mass comm degrees

not a bad idea at all, IMO...I hear there is a pretty major projected shortage of people who know the trades over the next ten years or so...

About to do the same. I'm significantly older though.

There are several apprenticeship programs out there. He can work, make money, gain experience, and go to school all at the same time. Great idea.

A good friend's son went straight from h.school to Delgado, got his degree/license, worked his arse off for a few years & is now blowing & going with his own company on the horizon. Then the money will roll in for him & he'll be doing less & less actual hard work.

IBEW has a very good apprentice program that I think takes 5 years to complete. Electricians make good money. However, its a dangerous job if you dont do it right.

Good luck to him. World needs great tradesmen.
