Also, guys who install onsite wastewater systems, and repair failing systems make a ton of cash, if you can stand the smell.

Starting pay for apprentices is around $20 here. You start at roughly $30/hour once you finish the apprenticeship. Not sure how it works there.

Good field to get into.

The only problem is actually securing a job.

I guess it seems high because all I hear on here is how law school is terrible to go into because there aren't any jobs

Sounds awesome. Not to disparage other electricians or anything, but I hope he keeps that mindset throughout, that he's doing this because he wants to excel at it and not because it was the best alternative to college.

I can see young guys taking on trades by choice, and remaining intellectually curious about them, doing really really well in the coming years.

Try to get him hired by triad, mmr or ISC and he'll learn the trade on the job. And they will pay for him to go to ABC school

That's great!

If he wants to work on the really big stuff and be a lineman for a utility, thats is not a bad deal either.

a friend from high school went the electrician route right out of HS, the company liked him and his demeanor/work ethic enough to send him to college to get an EE, not saying that happens everyday or that it always works out, but in his case it did, at least he has a goal
