Recovering photos from an iphone 6

My wife has a 5-6 month old iphone 6 that the screen suddenly died. It'll light up, but not show anything else. She did not back up the photos onto the cloud or anything. Is there a way to recover these pics?

plug it into a computer and copy them from the memory like you would any digital camera

Try DFU mode. Google it for instructions.
