The fastest film to reach that mark. Not even Avatar or The Avengers got to $1 billion that quickly.

Is it though?

None of the movies in the series is worth of any major awards, but it's just so damn entertaining.

Not to mention, with P. Walker's death, I'd imagine it was even more highly anticipated.

Everyone should know the reason why

It's tragic, but it's the reason

It's not shocking it made as much as it did. It's shocking that it happened in that amount of time

It completely sucks IRL that Paul Walker died but as far as money for the movie goes it was the best thing that could happen

Given what this franchise began as 15 years ago, it should have never made it to this level of success.

And it did.

Congratulations to them.

China. It had the largest opening day in Chinese history - almost $70 million. I think the largest single day a movie had in US history was the last Harry Potter movie which had $85-$90 million.

Meatheads and foreigners?

Honestly, these movies aren't terrible, but I am a bit surprised that they've done so well.

This.

Kudos to them for making what accounts for the best "old school" action movie descendants out there.

Basically.

Sure the movies aren't "good" per se, but who is going to see Fast and Furious movies expecting fricking Citizen Kane?

Furious 7 was very entertaining.

Absolutely. I never would have guessed this could happen. Hats off to them for being successful in entertaining so many people. They seem to have the right recipe for success.

Paul Walker wasn't exactly A-list though. Outside of the Fast & Furious franchise, he played second fiddle in most of his films.

This is the true key. The makers of the Fast movies have figured out how to successfully market in damn near every single territory with great success. There is a reason the cast is so culturally diverse and it really helps them out around the world with marketing.

I have seen the first half hour of the first one or something like that and I lost interest.

But, keep making them. I'm glad people like them. Movies are supposed to entertain. These do it well, apparently. Kudos.

Yep. There's a reason they brought Han back and refuse to kill him off (unless they finally did in this one). A Vietnamese girl I used to work with told me she and all of her friends were obsessed with him.

Does anyone think it has enough steam to knock Avatar out of the #1 spot. I've been hoping that something, anything, will finally do this. Dances With Smurfs is an insult to the human race.

Maybe Star Wars will do it.

spoiler warning b/c this be a board that can you can quote directly from the back of a Game of Thrones book thereby giving away major plot points and be fine but then somehow get banned for saying you know there is at least one character that is still alive in the books but is dead in the show even though you didnt name the person.

nah, Han is finally dead.

He technically kicked it way back in Fast and Furious 3 (Tokyo Drift) and all the ones since happened before that flick in the timeline.

I forget if its at the very end of 6 or if its stinger in the middle of the credits but they show you that his car wreck wasn't an accident and that Jason Statham is the one that actually killed him in order to get at Vin Diesel.
