Kids complain dude, it's just what they do. "My mom's not around enough", "My mom doesn't give me enough space", "I wish we could eat tonight". They're just little factories that only produce three things: bitching, moaning and snot.

Sarcasm I hope. Wonder if your mom felt the same way?

This is what is wrong with schools today. If the teachers just taught instead of trying to play psychologists our kids would get a better education.

In my opinion this teacher took advantage of these young kids to find out personal issues about their famlies.

BINGO!

Why not just have a normal writing assignment on maybe a book they read??
Or is this Common Core?

So maybe the assignment was "write about something you wish for"?

I would have said (if I remember correctly to an early age) : "I wish I could see a cubs game" or "I wish I could play pro football"

Nothing wrong with the assignment

Absolutely not. Reading the article, there's nothing underminded about it. She knows a lot of her students are underprivileged and she's wanting them to feel safe enough to share. Kids won't share their story until they feel they are in a safe spot.

She did, verbatim. I didn't come up with that expression.

I'm just saying that kids complain a lot and we shouldn't get all worked up every time they're lonely or hungry and decide to vocalize it.

School shouldn't be about "sharing" or feeling "safe", it's a place for children to learn a trade and get a free breakfast. Save the touchy feely shite for church, I want my tax-dollars paying for welding classes not feelings classes.

Read the article.
The assignment was called
"I wish my teacher knew..."

She a 3rd year teacher and says 92% of her students qualify for reduced or free lunches.

3rd grade is a crucial time of learning (for the kids) why waste a lesson plan on such BS?

Did that kid tell his dad to call obama? He would be in the country via helicopter in less than an hour.

what story is the teacher hoping to gain? It is her job to teach not pry into their personal lives.

Expressing yourself is not bs.

Actually the opposite. These kids may not be able to talk to anybody about what they think and feel. I give props to the teacher
