EASIER??? Every shot he took was amazing and 95% were heavily contested. That was SICK, the best player ever in the Playoffs in his absolute prime.
Obviously every shot was amazing... it is a highlight video.

The point isn't to pay attention to that. It's to show how much space he has to work with and the lack of help defense there was due to the rules.

Any super star player would love to play 1-on-1 like that with that kind of spacing. But the rules today make it much more difficult for a star player to play like that.

Pay attention to the players off the ball and compare that to where players off the ball position themselves on the court today.

The lanes were not nearly as open in the LeBron highlights.

I think the biggest issue is that A LOT of people either stopped watching once MJ retired or the following decade or so forced them to stop watching.

I think the biggest issue is that A LOT of people here aren't old enough to even remember MJ playing on the Wizards.

Did you watch the LeBron highlight video posted in this thread?

Yes I did. Most of that video is LeBron on the fast break or running the pick and roll. That doesn't really apply to what I'm talking about.

But there is a perfect example in the video.

Go to 7:23

Look at Paul George and DJ Augustin playing a loose double team on LeBron. They are covering both LeBron and Mario Chalmers with a focus on LeBron. They are hanging out in space. Then once he gets past them, he's got Ian Mahinmi waiting for him at the rim.

Why are 95% of LeBron's highlights in that video either off the fast break or in the pick and roll, when 95% of Jordan's highlights in the video I showed were taking his man 1-on-1?

Because the game has changed due to the rules, and star players had to find other ways to score. That's why "early offense" is so important now, and why the game is so pick-and-roll heavy now.

If you want another example, look at 9:37. Look at how many Spurs players are right around the paint, way off of their man. That would be illegal defense in the 90's. There was much less space for LeBron to work with. He scored because of poor execution on San Antonio's part, but imagine how much more open that lane would be if the players were forced to play close to their man instead of standing around the paint.

Why do you whine and complain so much about the past? It seems you are insecure in knowing that some of the players from the past are better than some of the present. Just watch the damn game and enjoy it.

I mean you have made multiple threads over the subject. We get it, you think today's game is better; some don't, some do. It is okay for others to have an opinion differing than yours.

Lol at thinking athletes haven't progressed in 30 years.

My lord. Even the average height of humans has risen in that time period.

And with advanced nutrition and today's training, there is just no comparison.

90s was an eternity ago, also. But you're prob still one of those subhumans chatting on AIM over your free 50 hour AOL dialup CD ROM. Just lol

Pls go

Math is hard, eh?

I'm 29 years old. The 1990s were 16 years ago. How dense do you have to be to think things have changed in such an exponential manner that players from WAY BACK then couldn't compete now? fricking Tim Duncan and Kobe Bryant are still active players.

Of course, you're just some dork who regurgitates crap he reads on reddit, so I wouldn't expect you to have much of a working brain. When did you start watching the NBA? 2005?

Nothing I say comes from reddit,.wtf.

Anyways, if you don't think today's athletes are superior to untrained, food guide pyramid dieters of the 90s, then we can just agree to disagree.

BRB following the food guide pyramid for nutrition advice. fricking lol at the 80s and 90s

This is literally the 2nd thread I've ever made on the subject.

Secondly, I never said the game is better today. I like both versions of the game.

I would just like to educate people on the differences between the game and why things that were done in the past are not done anymore.

I don't think people understand how big of a change the rules made in how the game looks today compared to the past.

Like I said, I'm not saying one is better than the other... I just want people to understand the difference.

Really? Is there a stat that shows league-wide field goal percentage through the years? I would guess it's up from the 90s.

MJ's sports nutrition diet revolved entirely around Mrs. Baird's white bread because that's all they sold back then, 30 years ago, in 1997.
