Now I'm not a county fan at ALL. I do enjoy Zac Brown and how he harmonizes. I think he has some good songs and other decent other one. I know he is catogrizied as a country musician but I think he is more that

I used to like him

Don't really care for him that much anymore. Colder weather will always hold a special place in my heart though

I agree completely. He has some new stuff where he partners up with the former lead singer of Audioslave and Soundgarden that's pretty awesome and more blues rock than country (see "Heavy is the Head"). I love tracks like "Colder Weather", "Sweet Amy", and "All Alright".

I really like ZBB. They have worked with everyone from Jimmy Buffett to Dave Grohl and Chris Cornell. They wrote their own songs and are solid musicians. He has great taste in covers (Jolene, Into the Mystic, Dress Blues). For most bands (especially in country), a big hit like Chicken Fried right out of the gate is a curse, but they have not fallen to the temptation of trying to recreate it.

I don't particularly like them, but I don't think they're part of what's killing country music either. They worked hard and paid their dues and got to where they are with songwriting and work, not Nashville talent searches and branding.

Plus I was friends with his wife in HS.

Is it safe to say they fit the "Outlaw Country" category as they write their own music, perform their own songs, and pretty much put out whatever the frick they want?

big ole key point right there... Pop/country is so gag inducing its not even funny.. So yeah.. They don't fit the typical current Nashville profile

Is their new CD worth purchasing? I've always liked them.

I'm the biggest ZBB fan there is and at first I wasn't a big fan of the new album. I'm just so used to their older stuff and they really opened it up on this album so it threw me off. They did a little of everything on this album and their musicianship really shows through. Although I think they have a little too much going on in a few songs.

These are a few of my favorites from Jekyll and Hyde.

Tomorrow Never Comes (acoustic)

Bittersweet

Remedy

Wildfire

Zac Brown is the best thing you'll hear that was made in the past few years on a country radio station. Honestly I'm surprised they got Sweet Annie and Colder Weather onto the charts

He actually has some really good stuff. Very original and completely against what modern pop country is. He kinda just plays what he feels like playing, and with whoever. Pretty refreshing to see someone NGAF about everything associated with new stuff.

Looking forward to seeing them at Thunder on the Mountain in Arkansas at the end of next month

One of the few big names out there that actually put on a hell of a live show. I try to see these guys every time they come around Columbus. Worth the money every single time.

I love ZBB, but I fear they a shifting away from what made them great and what drew me to them. Really all bands do this at some point and it is frustrating but you can't blame them. At first listen to the new album it's just okay. I'm sure it will grow on me. They are amazing live tho.

I felt the same way, but then I listened to the sweet bass riff at the end of "Junkyard" and all was right in the world.

I like a couple of their songs...and it pains me to say this, but I'd probably rather listen to Luke Bryan.

ETA: Did all his hair fall out or something? Is that why he wears that knit looking thing on his head?

Junkyard was one of the songs I was talking about that just seemed to have too much going on. That song goes back to before "Chicken Fried" came out on radio. Powerful song though, he wrote it about his abusive stepdad. I like this slightly less crowded version of Junkyard

But I will say this, I'm not a musician so the album version might be a musical masterpiece, it just doesn't suit my ear.
