Currently hitting Taylormade Burner irons that I've had for several years. I don't get to play much but starting to wonder how much difference it would make if I got fitted for irons. I'm 6'3 and my irons are off the rack.

Last few times I've played I noticed I don't feel comfortable when addressing the ball, too bent over. My ball striking is not good (getting lessons soon) but gets worse as the round progresses and my back stiffens up.

My question is can I get my current irons fitted with new shafts or should I get new irons all together? Regarding shafts what are some good options?

Get fitted, at your height the off the rack irons are probably not what you need. You'll need more upright lies and maybe slightly longer shafts.

I had a 6'7" friend go from off the rack to fitted. Dropped 15 strokes easily off his handicap.

Cool...so they could take the clubs I have now and adjust them to the proper angle and length? Wish I would have done this years ago when I played more. Maybe I wouldn't be a 30 hcp.

You can get your current irons reshafted

I would go somewhere that has the Mizuno shaft optimizer which you can swing and it may give you some insight into what flex and shaft may work best for you.

The 3 popular iron shafts (steel) are

Truetemper dynamical gold
KBS
ProjectX

You can buy a used set for maybe 80-100 bucks but it may be hard to find them used in a length long enough for you.

They can also lengthen your existing shafts with butt extensions but I'm not sure how well they'd work if you are trying to extend more than a half inch or so

Usually over night. $3 a club or so. So yeah... You could have knocked this out for next to nothing and been playing better for a long time.

Hey man, I am 6'5, and I can't get clubs off the rack. I had to get my set fitted. I am actually thinking about getting me a new set. When I took some lessons a couple years back, the pro told me that my clubs weren't log enough. they've always felt short. But get some fitted.

Definitely get fitted. It's all about finding out what kind of club speed you can get. I went from 100 - 108mpg club head speed with my 16 year old King Cobra irons to 120+ consistently after I got fitted.

I truly never realized having the correct size for my swing could help me as dramatically as it has. I'm only 6', but I found out that I am more consistent - longer and tighter groupings with a +.5 inch and stiffer shaft. (damn that sounds bad).

I find myself wanting to play a lot more, and with people that I was once hesitant to play with because I'm hitting more consistent shots. It feels good to feel confident in where the ball is going to land.

I went to Dick's. The guy there knew his stuff. I actually went in thinking what I "wanted".

After working with him for about 2 hours, I ended up getting some Pung i25's. Saved me a couple hundred dollars. And I am hitting them better than the ones I thought I wanted.

How much longer were your buddy's clubs than stock after the fitting?

lol
You don't have a 120 mph swing speed Jaime Sadlowski. If you think that based off what the pro at Dick's had you believe, you dumb.

Those monitors are incorrect. If you're hitting the ball with the center of the club every time, great. But you aren't swinging your game improvement clubs 120 mph.

What the frick? You don't know me. You don't know my swing. I certainly don't need to try to justify my statements to you.

Funny you say those machines aren't accurate, but every damn golf fitting worth a shite are using them. Get over yourself big daddy.

What club did you swing 120 to get fitted for irons? That's your driver speed if anything. How's that help fit your irons?

Show me a swing vid. Nobody believes you have a 120 mph swing speed based off your 2 hour fitting with Carl at Dick's Sporting Goods.

I promise you, you don't. Maaaybe 110 mph.

Are you sure you don't mean ball speed? 120 ball speed with an iron makes sense. 120 club speed is top 0.1% of all golfers. Everywhere.

ETA: Dicks can have some excellent PGA pros. They have found a home at Dicks since the recession cut many jobs out of the golf industry. Some are extremely knowledgable just unlucky.
