I knew this, but this is a good PSA. It's amazing how often I read someone apologizing for accidentally downvoting like there isn't a way to fix it.

Do down/up votes even mean anything other than to the ego of the poster? As in, is there any other purpose other than "Hey look! My post got 6 up-votes. I feel better about myself"?

I've accidentally down voted a few posts. But does it really matter?
I guess if someone has low self esteem it could possibly send them right over the edge.
