Anyone have these POSs installed in their home?

They are hardwired with a battery "back-up", although the battery still needs to be replace relatively frequently for something with a dedicated power source. The carbon monoxide part seems to fail on them as well - I've currently got three completely disconnected at the moment.

In any event, I can get one for repalcement $33 or six with no CO sensor for $60. So my question is - is a carbon monoxide detector really necessary without space heaters or anything else? Better safe than sorry and we do have a gas stove, but it seems a bit unnecessary to have all 10 or detectors in my home have both.

I'm a fireman, so take this with a grain of salt. Rule of thumb is 2 smoke detectors per floor minimum, 1 fire extinguisher per floor, and a CO detector near any gas appliance that's inside the house. So it depends on how big your house is. Just buy a CO detector that's only a CO, not smoke and CO and plug in outlet near stove.

In east Baton Rouge parish ( maybe a state law not sure) in all new builds you have to have a smoke detector inside every bedroom hard wired in and a smoke/carbon monoxide detector outside of every bedroom hard wired in if you have gas in your house. You definitely need to have CO detectors if you have gas appliances, heat, hot water etc.

2 story. Gas stove, central heat and water heater (last two in attic of course).
